Texas A&M Health is looking for a Program Specialist I to serve as a member of the Texas A&M School of Public Health. Job Summary: The Program Specialist I, under general supervision, performs entry-level specialist duties for a department, college, or division, in this case, our Together for a Better Tomorrow program.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Special Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English & Spanish.
  • Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications.
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and customer service skills.
  • Maintains attention to detail and utilizes sound judgment.

Required Licenses and Certifications:

  • Must have valid State of TX Driver’s license and have own reliable transportation for work purposes.

Preferred Experience:

  • Three years of related experience in project coordination/administration
  • Experience with assisting or leading curriculum development efforts.
  • Experience with assisting or leading training efforts.
  • Public relations and marketing experience.
  • Two years of related experience working with Spanish-speaking community members, stakeholders, and completing research and outreach activities.

Special Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of Canvas, Photoshop, & other design platforms.

Responsibilities:

Program Planning & Development

Assists in the short-term and long-term planning of the Together for a Better Tomorrow program

Assists in developing the educational and evaluation material for the program

Assists in actually implementing the educational sessions and evaluation components

Assists in coordinating the educational and evaluation activities needed for the program

Assists in monitoring the program’s process and the services being providing. 

Hosts occasional in-person educational sessions in the Lower Rio Grande Valley

Program Procedures & Guidelines

Provides input into developing/brainstorming adequate procedures and program policies for both the educational sessions and evaluation components to ensure data integrity.

Facilitates efficient use of program resources as well as

Ensures adherence to the program’s proposal since this is a 100% grant-funded program.

Program Communication & Reporting

Assists the Program Manager in preparing reports for the funder, stakeholders, and principal investigators

Participate in weekly updates meetings to ensure progress of activities.

Program Administrative Support

Coordinates the creation of material that is culturally and linguistically appropriate (Spanish-speaking communities) that can be used to break ground and promote program in south Texas communities.

Evaluates effectiveness of program materials to ensure the approach is appropriate for the success of the program.

Other Duties

Performs other duties as assigned.

Other Requirements or Other Factors:

  • Flexible hours including weekends/evenings.
  • Will require occasional travel to Hidalgo County in the Lower Rio Grande Valley.
  • Must have access to/own computer with internet access for work and communication purposes.
  • The position is contingent on funding and will possibly end by May 2024.
