Job Summary
We are currently seeking skilled and team-oriented applicants for the following position: Program Specialist 2 – Housing & Residential Life (HRL)
Under general direction, this position oversees the assigning of individual students to their residence hall rooms using a specialized housing management program (currently Star Rez). Manages daily the room and dining plan changes and billing of all University residents using this program and the University Student Information System (Banner). Coordinates with other departments to reserve rooms for special groups during the academic year. Provides support in coordination of Housing special events. Assists walk-in customers and answers phones, as needed. This position interprets and reviews program policies/ procedures and provides information related to the program’s activities to students, staff, program participants and/or the public. Composes written communications, establishes and maintains records related to program operations.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree earned by the start date
  • Two or more years’ experience involving each of the following (experience can come from one or from multiple positions, as long as you offer two years’ experience in each and all of the areas listed below):
    • Coordinating multiple projects involving consequential work (i.e., must be beyond entry level tasks)
    • Experience which demonstrates ability to successfully handle a demanding workload with overlapping deadlines
    • Demonstrated high level skills in communications, written and verbal; proven attention to detail, initiative and ability to take direction and work independently
    • Work experience which demonstrates ability to develop and maintain relationships
  • Work experience involving one or more of the following:
    • Working in an administrative capacity
    • Providing program management or program support beyond entry level work
    • Working in a capacity involving student services
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities, pay attention to detail and produce desired results
  • Ability to communicate in a clear, friendly, and effective manner both orally and in writing
  • Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of an integrated team
  • High level of cultural humility and experience working effectively with marginalized populations
  • Strong organization and event planning skills
  • Demonstrated interest, ability and/or experience promoting cultural competency, universal accessibility, and/or diversity.

    Room Assignments:
    • Enter, organize, and audit student data and room assignment information in a residential management system, currently Star Rez.
    • Coordinate uploads from Star Rez to the University Banner system all residence hall room and board charges and assignment designations.
    • Prepare for implementation of online Housing applications and room assignments.
    • Work closely with the various EWU international programs (AUAP, ELI, DIEO) and Athletics programs as a liaison on behalf of Housing and Residential Life.
    • Train Residence Life Coordinators to use the Star Rez software.
    • Aid in the planning of occupancy configurations for the upcoming year.
    • Produce custom Star Rez reports both routinely and on demand.
    • Compose correspondence to customers regarding room assignments, payment concerns, and other Housing policies.

    • Use spreadsheet and data base software to develop and maintain records.
    • Work proactively in a customer service capacity when working with residents and Residence Life staff.
    • Represent Housing and Residential Life at University meetings.
    • Act in an office support capacity as needed (answering phones, assisting walk-in students, etc.).
