Department Summary
The Office of Advising Services promotes high-quality advising across UNT’s advising units through coordination, training/ professional development, and leadership support. Our advising team offers pathways counseling to prospective and current students, and TSI advising. The office is located in the Academic Success Center at Sage Hall.
Position Overview
The Program Project Specialist position will provide support for retention and student success initiatives. Additionally, the role will support the development of advisors through a campus-wide training and professional development program. The position is responsible for a variety of tasks which may include assisting in developing and conducting training and professional development programs, research, reporting, program marketing, piloting retention initiatives, and community outreach.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in related field and one year of related experience or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Excellent customer service skills.
• Ability to provide leadership for student employees and volunteers.
 • Experience in networking across departments and programs.
 • Ability to communicate and work with a diverse population.
 • Strong organizational skills and ability to simultaneously execute multiple projects.
 • Excellent verbal and written communication, and computer skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of the principles, standards and practices of project management.
  • Student services or advising experience.
Required License / Registration / Certification
Work Schedule
Monday – Friday, 8am-5pm. Occasional nights or weekends for certain programs/events.

Job Duties


o
Plans, promotes and implements activities related to advisor training/professional development and advisor recognition, which may include development of lesson and activity plans, program presentations, and recruitment.
o
Assists with development, implementation, promotion/dissemination and logistical support of retention and student success initiatives.
o
Assists with implementation, development, planning, promotion/dissemination and logistical support of University Counselor and Advisor Network.
o
Maintains and reports accurate program/project related records which are consistent with applicable grant/program/university requirements. Writes reports, grant proposals or other program/project related documents, as requested. Conducts research and provides reports.
o
Collaboration and assistance across Student Success teams as well as support for division-wide projects and activities.
o
Maintains relationships with appropriate stakeholders. Acts as point of contact for stakeholders. Assists, as needed, with oversight of student employees, interns or grad assistants and related duties (hiring, training, evaluation) as well as providing guidance for professional development and community involvement.
