The National Institute of General Medical Sciences, The National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, Maryland
The National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS) is looking to hire a Program Officer with experience in the biochemical sciences to join our Biochemistry and Bio-related Chemistry (BBC) Branch.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the scientific and administrative management of a portfolio of research grants in (1) bioengineering, synthetic biology, natural product biosynthesis, and biochemical tools (e.g., engineered DNA, RNA, protein, peptides & biomimetics), or (2) bioinorganic chemistry (trace metal transport & homeostasis), metallo-enzymology, mitochondrial physiology, and other aspects of bioenergetics (redox reactions & oxidative stress).
Applicants should have broad expertise in biochemistry, familiarity with modern experimental methods, and experience in applying this knowledge to biological systems and/or therapeutics. Candidates must be U.S. citizens and should have a doctoral degree in one of the sciences underlying these research areas. Familiarity with NIH extramural funding as an applicant, reviewer, or NIH scientific administrator is a plus, and outstanding written and oral communication skills are essential.
Interested candidates should respond to the upcoming NIH Global Recruitment announcement for Health Scientist Administrators (HSA) through USAjobs.gov , which will be posted January 21, 2020 through January 30, 2020. There will be two GS-12/13/14 HSA (Program Officer) vacancy announcements: One for federal employees only and one for all other applicants.
In preparing an application, review and follow the tip sheet to give yourself the best possible chance to qualify and be referred. The post on applying for scientific administration jobs at NIGMS may also offer useful information. Questions regarding the open position should be addressed to Dr. Miles Fabian ([email protected] ), those concerning the recruitment process to Ms. Claudia Gonzalez ([email protected] ), and those about the submission process or an application’s status to the HR Specialist listed in the job announcement. Candidates completing the application process through USA jobs are encouraged to send a letter of interest and a curriculum vitae to Dr. Fabian.
Start here on January 21st --> NIH Global Recruitment: https://hr.nih.gov/jobs/global-recruitment .
The NIH encourages the application and nomination of qualified women, minorities, and individuals with disabilities. The HHS and NIH are Equal Opportunity Employers.
