Position Description:

The National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS) is looking to hire a Program Officer with experience in the biochemical sciences to join our Biochemistry and Bio-related Chemistry (BBC) Branch. 


Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be responsible for the scientific and administrative management of a portfolio of research grants in (1) bioengineering, synthetic biology, natural product biosynthesis, and biochemical tools (e.g., engineered DNA, RNA, protein, peptides & biomimetics), or (2) bioinorganic chemistry (trace metal transport & homeostasis), metallo-enzymology, mitochondrial physiology, and other aspects of bioenergetics (redox reactions & oxidative stress). 


Qualifications:

Applicants should have broad expertise in biochemistry, familiarity with modern experimental methods, and experience in applying this knowledge to biological systems and/or therapeutics. Candidates must be U.S. citizens and should have a doctoral degree in one of the sciences underlying these research areas. Familiarity with NIH extramural funding as an applicant, reviewer, or NIH scientific administrator is a plus, and outstanding written and oral communication skills are essential.
