Position Description

The Program Marketing Manager is a marketing professional with experience in managing and executing integrated marketing campaigns for Harvard Medical School’s Office for Graduate Education and its portfolio of diverse master’s and PhD programs. They effectively partner with clients, internal teams, and external vendors to strategically plan and manage full-cycle marketing projects, driving enrollment for an assigned program portfolio. This role entails a primary focus on operational aspects of marketing campaigns, continually refining activities to achieve goals. The Program Marketing Manager is an important role within the central Marketing team for the Office for External Education (OEE) and the Office for Graduate Education at Harvard Medical School. Leveraging both technical marketing skills and subject matter expertise, the Program Marketing Manager leads efforts to design and implement program-specific marketing plans.

This role requires superior attention to detail, the ability to meet tight deadlines, strong project management skills, and the ability to juggle multiple critical requests. A high level of integrity and professionalism in dealing with senior professionals inside and outside the organization is important.

Job responsibilities include:

  • Develop and execute integrated marketing plans to achieve application and enrollment targets for assigned programs within the portfolio.
  • Lead Grad Education marketing meetings and serve as the primary point-of-contact from the Marketing team to the Office for Graduate Education and the master’s program teams across HMS and present ideas at Master’s Governance Committee meetings and get buy-in from stakeholders before implementing new marketing strategies and tactics.
  • Own and drive end-to-end management of master’s portfolio marketing projects, partnering with the Graduate Education team on strategy, including portfolio marketing and research, and identifying new opportunities.
  • Lead development and production of high-quality marketing materials for the Office for Graduate Education and individual programs, working closely with internal colleagues and managing outside vendors (designers, copywriters, digital marketing agencies).
  • Make web update recommendations and maintain Graduate Education and program websites’ content and marketing landing pages, considering Harvard brand standards, SEO, and user experience best practices; transition program websites to new templates as needed.
  • Create, QA, and schedule email marketing campaigns to generate new applications and nurture them to completion.
  • Plan, write, and schedule promotional posts for Graduate Education social media channels Create, manage, and optimize digital marketing campaigns and work with marketing vendors and agencies to promote programs and improve ROI through paid search and social, display, and retargeting.
  • Drive the internal and external messaging process, manage approvals, and manage the distribution of that messaging to various audiences.
  • Develop, recommend, and manage portfolio and program budgets and reporting, emphasizing efficiency and cost containment.
  • Partner with the admissions team to manage information sessions, created consistent and well-branded communications, and manage records in Slate CRM.
  • Provide regular program updates to stakeholders (leadership, marketing, education, and business development).
  • Review campaign performance and adjust on an ongoing basis to improve ROI.
  • Manage execution and usage of the marketing team’s owned assets (website, database, email marketing tool, project management system, etc.).
  • Write, proofread, and edit various marketing and communication elements maintaining consistency with HMS and Harvard University branding and style throughout.
  • Ensure accuracy and consistency of program information across all communication channels.

Basic Qualifications

5 or more years of relevant experience are required. Higher education may count toward years of experience.


Additional Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, business, or a related field is strongly preferred.
  • Some proficiency with marketing, website content management systems, and CRM tools such as Salesforce, Slate, Marketing Cloud, and Drupal.
  • Working knowledge of digital advertising platforms such as Google and LinkedIn Ads.
  • Strong project management, time management, and organizational skills.
  • Solid understanding of integrated marking efforts and demonstrated experience of success through the implementation of integrated marketing plans.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Copywriting, proofreading, and editing skills.
  • Ability to develop productive relationships with a variety of colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Decisive problem-solving skills and strong analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks from various constituents to meet ambitious deadlines.
  • Digital proficiency in best practices including but not limited to email marketing, Google Analytics, and web content.

This position is based in Boston, but the work may be done primarily remote. Any remote work must be performed in a state in which Harvard is registered to do business (CA*, CT, GA, IL, MA, MD, ME, NH, NJ, NY, RI, VA, VT, and WA).
