ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY:
The Office of Graduate and Postdoctoral Affairs is in the Morsani College of Medicine and houses graduate level programs in Biomedical Sciences. The MD-PhD Program at the University of South Florida is a combined degree program that integrates medical school training with biomedical research, leading to a combined MD-PhD degree. The program is designed to prepare students to become physician-scientists who will significantly contribute to the understanding and improvement of human health.  Students pursue their research interests in the basic science and clinical departments and institutes of the Morsani College of Medicine and Moffitt Cancer Center.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Program Manager will work closely with the program director(s). The successful candidate will bring an innovative perspective to developing and implementing strategies to advance the program.  The candidate must show initiative and outstanding organizational and interpersonal skills. In consultation with the program director(s), this person will develop objectives, procedures, and priorities for the program; coordinate its overall direction to improve effectiveness and quality; monitor student progress; manage outreach, recruitment, and admissions; schedule and staff committee meetings; coordinate courses; track alumni and program outcomes.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Primary oversight of all administrative aspects of the MD-PhD program. This includes the development and implementation of policies and procedures related to student onboarding, program progression, extracurricular programming, budget, etc. Requires obtaining input of stakeholders across multiple departments (DME, Graduate Studies, MD Admissions, MCOM Graduate Affairs, etc.) and communicating policies and procedures to students, faculty, staff, and other administrative offices. Ensures that all policies and procedures are aligned with national standards and university guidelines.
Collaborates with Admissions teams to ensure an efficient admissions process, including the development and implementation of a cohesive MD-PhD application and interview process, marketing initiatives, and recruitment events.
Serves as the expert on all aspects of the MD-PhD program, including researching and understanding how these programs are run at other institutions. Serves as the primary resource for applicants, current students, faculty, staff, and other stakeholders of this program.
Provides comprehensive advising services to current students, promoting graduate student success, retention, and degree completion. Advises students on program requirements and graduate policies while monitoring degree progress and assisting students in navigating university policies. Works with faculty advisors to resolve issues related to student progression.
Oversees financial aspects of the program, such as graduate student funding, (including, but not limited to, fellowships, scholarships, training grants, or assistantships), annual budget, travel expenses, tuition waivers, etc. With program director(s) and university leadership, draft and submit the T32 application to convert the program to a federally funded MSTP.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM:
This position requires a Bachelor's degree in a field directly related to the program responsibilities and four years of experience or a combination of post high school education and experience equal to eight years. Four years of direct experience can substitute for Bachelor's degree.
PREFERRED:
Master's degree and three years of professional experience. Experience working with graduate or professional students in admissions, recruitment, advising, or a related function.
