This position assesses, designs, develops, and implements recruitment and retention programs and services to advance the mission and vision of the College of Engineering’s (COE) Community, Access, Retention, and Empowerment (CARE) team relative to the transition, retention and success of students with focus on underrepresented groups in COE and Knowlton School.

Manages the Peer Academic Leader (PAL) Mentoring Program for students in the Living-Learning Community for Engineers, Architects, and Planners (LEAP) and PREFACE program; responsible for recruiting, supervising, and training peer mentors; coordinating workshops, meetings and events; and developing a mechanism to monitor and track the impact of peer mentoring and retention; develops curriculum for CARE seminar courses and serves as instructor/facilitator for learning and motivational strategy courses and/or workshops; works closely with CARE staff to manage and implement a series of co-curricular programming and workshops which empower students and promote self-awareness and self-efficacy; creates, or leverages current, academic support programming in partnership with other CARE staff and campus partners; collaborates with CoE advising, career services and graduate education staff to inform students of academic and career options in engineering; gathers data to evaluate effectiveness of programs; responsible for keeping abreast of best practices, trends, and innovations for retention of undergraduate engineers, with focus on underrepresented groups; lead, deliver and present data at local and national conferences; prepares and presents proposals and reports for various stakeholders; manages program budgets; assists and supports planning and implementation of CARE initiatives and programs; supervises and trains student staff and volunteers; may serve as an advisor to at least one CARE-connected student organization or liaison to other student support offices on campus.

Additional Information: This position requires some evening and weekend hours and occasional travel.


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. 4 years of relevant experience required. 4-8 years of relevant experience preferred
  • 3+ years of experience in managing retention and student success programs in higher education
  • Demonstrated success of creating programming and outreach to women that includes intersectionality of identities
  • High level of cultural competency and understanding of ethnic and gender issues that impact student success
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) and organizational skills
  • Experience in developing and implementing program evaluations and reports
  • Ability to work effectively with a variety of constituents and collaborators
  • Success in roles requiring execution of multiple tasks while responding to multiple priorities and stakeholders

Desired Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in engineering and/or STEM related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience strongly desired
  • Experience with STEM programing
  • Experience as an instructor at undergraduate level
  • Bilingual
