Texas A&M University is home to two unique, policy-focused internship opportunities: The Agricultural & Natural Resources Policy (ANRP) Internship Program and the Public Policy Internship Program (PPIP). Since 1990, these programs have been providing Aggie interns of the highest quality to governmental and non-governmental offices at the state, national and international levels. To date, more than 2,000 undergraduate and graduate students have taken advantage of the unique opportunity to combine their academics with public policy knowledge and professional experience.

The position is ideal for someone interested in managing relationships with internal and external stakeholders, directing the student placement process, and leading student development activities.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Five years of administrative, program coordination, or closely related experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications.

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong public speaking, organizational, leadership, and supervisory skills.

  • Ability to maintain attention to detail and utilize sound judgment.

  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Current or former Texas A&M University student and/or participant in a D.C. internship program.

  • Supervisory and/or conflict resolution experience with college students.

Essential Duties/Tasks

Placement Process:

  • Serve as a liaison with external stakeholders such as agency administrators, congressional staff, and other internship supervisors. Establish and maintain contacts and relationships with hosting offices and potential hosting offices.

  • Directs the Washington, D.C. student placement process.

  • Serve as a liaison with university and intern program alumni in the Washington, D.C. area.

  • Maintains confidentiality of student and alumni records and other sensitive information in accordance with state/federal law and program and/or University policies.

  • Builds and maintains comprehensive alumni records to increase the intern alumni database.

  • Assists in developing strategic plans and goals to support the programs.

  • Assists with the development and production of materials designed for the program.

  • Maintains and develops communications between partners by attending meetings and conference calls.

Administrative:

  • Plans, organizes, directs, and manages day-to-day activities, developing and implementing procedures for the administration of the program at the Washington, D.C. location.

  • Assist with the establishment of short & long-term goals.

  • Serve as liaison with A&M – D.C. and Bush School – D.C. faculty, staff and administrators.

Student Support:

  • Develops and conducts programs including intern trainings, conferences, seminars and workshops.

  • Available to assist with residential support, as needed. This could include small scale repairs to furniture, and accepting, distributing, and assembling new furnishings and housewares.

  • Takes note of the concerns and needs of the student population. Coordinates with College Station staff in the event of receiving reports of alleged violations of Texas A&M University Student Rules, as well as Policy Internship Programs’ Terms of Participation, Intern Code of Conduct, and Housing Contract.

Physical Requirements: Must be able to maneuver up and down five or more flights of stairs and able to lift and/or move items of moderate weight.
