ROLE of the POSITION

The Program Manager, MA in Urban Leadership and Doctorate in Public Policy is responsible for providing day-to-day oversight of administrative & operational functions for the School of Public Policy and Leadership professional programs: the MA in Urban Leadership and Doctor of Public Policy Program. This position also serves as the Capstone Course Instructor in the Urban Leadership Program.

The Program Manager is accountable for overseeing all aspects of the Urban Leadership and Doctor of Public Policy Programs. This position is responsible for managing program staffing including recruiting, selecting, and hiring course instructors. The Program Manager serves as the students, faculty, staff, and vendor's primary point of contact. This position organizes and manages multiple student and alumni services events including orientation, leadership events, programs, and social and recognition activities, and the Doctor of Public Policy annual trip to Washington DC. This position will be responsible for the effective and efficient management and coordination of financial, budgetary, personnel, and daily operational functions of the School's professional programs. More specific responsibilities include coordinating and tracking program budgets, purchasing card transactions; and managing scholarship accounts.

The Program Manager serves as the capstone project instructor. This position will provide instruction, direction, coaching, and evaluation for student Legacy Projects. The Program Manager is the primary liaison between the students and community organizations. This position builds channels to access project resources and ensures students have a productive and positive experience over three courses of the Legacy Project.  The Program Manager follows student projects from inception to delivery and may teach anywhere from 3 - 12 graduate-level units in a semester term. 

DUTIES

  • Manages day-to-day operations and ensures that program/project mission, values, guidelines, policies & procedures are implemented & maintained.

  • Reviews processes and recommends changes for program enhancement as appropriate to administrative, recruitment, marketing, and educational components.

  • Identifies service improvement opportunities that will better enable the program to achieve its goals and objectives.

  • Participates in budget preparation.

  • Maintains budget & associated analysis & reports.

  • Processes transfer &/or appropriation charges & may balance accounts.

  • Incorporates social media and networking into program/project aspects as appropriate.

  • Creates and nurtures relationships with organizations to develop a network of enthusiastic organizations engaged via active participation in the success of the program/project.

  • Observe program sessions and interact with participants for the purpose of gaining student experience insight, growing and strengthening program knowledge, and optimizing student satisfaction.

  • Implements corrective actions required as a result of surveys or other student feedback indicators.

  • Develops plans and arranges meetings, workshops, events, etc. designed to improve student experience, and to build internal and external relationships.

  • Ensures that event details including communication, venues, presenters, travel arrangements, materials, refreshments, and technology are arranged and completed in an appropriate and timely manner.

  • Supports academic quality, program growth, and expansion.

  • Identifies & obtains external expertise as needed and works with content experts for current and new program initiatives.

  • Reviews programs/projects to increase efficiencies to support program growth.

  • Manages speaker selection, communication, and topic development.

  • Lead Urban Leadership program Legacy Project development and improvements.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

This position requires a Master's Degree from an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). The position requires three or more years of higher education experience in and instructor and program manager or coordinator role, and five or more years of experience working in corporate, public and nonprofit community engagement positions.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Demonstrated experience teaching in an online Masters Level Program at a college/university.

  • Demonstrated experience coordinating both Master's and Doctoral Professional programs at a college/university.

  • Demonstrated experience organizing, managing, executing, and evaluating a comprehensive schedule of graduate-level professional and online programs and extracurricular activities designed to meet the needs of the student population.

  • Demonstrated experience working effectively with students, faculty, staff, and administration to develop, maintain, and enhance student program services.

  • Strong candidates will display effective skills relating to general management, recruitment, communication, organization, decision-making, curriculum design, learning initiatives, event coordination, marketing, social media, collaboration, presenting, and oral/written communication.

  • Strong candidates will also display the ability to be collegial, flexible, transparent, and team-oriented.
