The Sexual Assault Prevention and Awareness Center promotes healthy relationships, teaches non-violence and equality, supports survivor healing, and fosters a respectful and safe environment for all members of the University of Michigan community. SAPAC offers prevention education for students, confidential support for survivors (students, faculty, and staff), and collaborates with other offices to offer training, programs, and innovative community engagement strategies to collectively create a campus free from sexual assault, intimate partner violence, stalking, and sexual and gender-based harassment.

Job Summary

The Program Manager for Prevention Education: Undergraduate Engagement serves on SAPAC's Prevention Education Team and provides leadership for 3 of SAPAC's peer education programs: Consent, Outreach and Relationship Education (CORE), Bystander Intervention and Community Engagement (BICE) and Survivor Empowerment and Ally Support (SEAS). These programs are designed to engage the undergraduate student population in primary, secondary, and tertiary violence prevention education and skill building. This includes but is not limited to consent, healthy relationships, bystander intervention, responding to disclosures, and self-care for survivors and their allies.

The position involves program and curriculum development; supervision of student staff and peer educators; ongoing facilitation training for peer educators; ongoing student leadership development efforts; partnering with units engaged in overlapping and intersecting work; evaluating programs for effectiveness; outreach and recruitment efforts and managing the overall infrastructure for CORE, BICE, and SEAS. This position also supports SAPAC's prevention education efforts through presentations, training, and workshop facilitation. 


Responsibilities*

Oversee SAPAC Sponsored Student Organizations including CORE (Consent, Outreach, Relationship Education), BICE (Bystander Intervention and Community Engagement) & SEAS (Survivor Empowerment and Ally Support) (30%):

  • Oversee approximately 150 volunteers from CORE, BICE, and SEAS volunteer groups
  • Assist with SAPAC's anti-racism efforts in creating spaces that are accessible, welcoming, affirming, and inclusive, with a focus on mattering and belonging in student-led spaces
  • Assist in developing curriculum and programming that is culturally informed and centers the unique backgrounds, identities, and experiences of the students we serve
  • Research emerging and relevant pedagogy around sexual misconduct prevention, peer education, student development, and diversity, equity, and inclusion, and incorporate concepts into programming content
  • Ensure curriculum alignment with other sexual misconduct prevention programs at SAPAC and across the institution; institutional guidelines and policies; State and Federal policies; and best practices
  • Oversee the development of student-facilitated consent, healthy relationships, bystander intervention, responding to disclosures, and self-care workshops
  • Oversee peer education requests for CORE, BICE, and SEAS and ensure collaboration with relevant partners
  • Provide individual support, guidance, and referrals as needed for student employees and volunteers of CORE, BICE and SEAS
  • Oversee attendance tracking and mandatory requirements of volunteers
  • Oversee annual peer education events including but not limited to Speak Out, Intimate Partner Violence Awareness Month, Better Bystander Month, Healthy Relationships Month, and rEVOLUTION Art Show
  • Support annual Sponsored Student Organization (SSO) re-registration processes including SSO agreement and Constitution renewal process and Authorized Signer identification
  • Oversee the ongoing evaluation of CORE, BICE, and SEAS educational programming in partnership with the Assessment Liaison within SAPAC
    • Develop and manage program assessment and evaluation mechanisms to improve and enhance the workshops and create reports that highlight program impact
  • Oversee communications related to CORE, BICE, and SEAS
  • Manage budgets for CORE, BICE, and SEAS programming
  • Support volunteer training efforts of CORE, BICE, and SEAS under the direction of the Assistant Director for Prevention
  • Education and Student Engagement
  • Assist with student recognition and appreciation events

Student Staff Leadership Development and Supervision (30%):

  • Recruit, hire, train, and supervise Co-coordinators CORE, BICE, and SEAS
    • Meet weekly with each co-coord pair for supervision, mentorship, and program oversight
    • Coordinate annual co-coord evaluation
    • Track student staff hours and approve student staff timesheets (with support from the Admin Assistant)
    • Lead annual recruitment and hiring processes for new student co-coordinators
  • Support execution of SAPAC-wide Leadership Development Initiatives under the direction of the Assistant Director for Prevention Education and Student Engagement
  • Co-facilitate weekly student co-coordinator meetings focused on leadership development and program management with the Program Manager for Prevention Education and Men's Engagement
    • Implement programming with a focus on identity development, leadership skill building, and program management techniques
    • Guide student co-coordinators in the development of a Mportfolio project that displays their philosophy statement, experience showcase, and future testimonial
  • Develop curriculum and support execution of Annual Student Staff Retreat under the direction of Assistant Director for Prevention Education and Student Engagement
  • Supervise graduate student intern
    • Meet with the graduate student intern regularly to provide ongoing training and support
    • Engage intern in projects that will aid in their growth and development
    • Coordinate with academic departments to complete program requirements

Outreach and Recruitment (20%):

  • Lead efforts to create a diverse community of student volunteers and leaders in SAPAC
  • Build and maintain partnerships with units and student organizations across campus, in particular, identity-based programming across primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention
  • Coordinate mass meetings for volunteer recruitment and outreach
  • Assist in formalizing SAPAC merchandise and branding efforts
  • Manage training for student leaders engaging in tabling efforts
  • Coordinate tabling efforts for annual campus resource fairs such as Festifall, Winterfest, Student Orientation, Pride Outside, etc
  • Partner with Program Manager for Prevention Education: Graduate and Community Engagement on outreach and recruitment social media efforts

Additional Areas of Responsibility (15%):

  • Attend weekly meetings with the SAPAC staff
  • Attend weekly prevention team meeting
  • Attend regular individual meetings with the direct supervisor
  • Support overarching development of SAPAC & PEAR (Prevention Education, Assistance, and Resources) Strategic Plan by coordinating intersecting prevention efforts per the Assistant Director
  • Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities
  • Assist with general SAPAC special events and programs as needed
  • Represent SAPAC at University-wide events and programs as needed
  • Participate in Divisional committees and initiatives
  • Other duties as assigned

SAPAC 24/7 Support Line (5%):

  • Serve in the staff rotation of the 24/7 SAPAC Support Line
  • Make appropriate documentation for each outreach or call
  • Manage the connection between clients and ongoing support in SAPAC

Selected candidates whose start date is 4/1/2024 or after, will not be eligible for the university FY24-25 salary/merit plan unless otherwise notified.

This role may have reporting obligations under Title IX and Clery.

Salary may vary depending on qualifications, experience, and education of the selected candidate.

Relocation will not be offered for this position.
