Job Summary
Reporting to the Associate Director for Experiential Learning, the Program Manager serves as the lead manager for key aspects of engagement opportunities within the Office of Academic Engagement in the Division of Student Success. The Program Manager is a mid-level leadership role that develops and manages experiential learning initiatives for the Residential Learning Communities (RLC) program, including developing residential curriculums and the connected UNIV (first year seminar) course sections, programming opportunities for students alongside the RLC partners, the residential peer mentor program, and the assessment of program outcomes. The Program Manager will ensure the successful delivery of the RLC program with a focus on achieving program outcomes, programmatic innovation, connecting to UTA’s strategic priorities and Principles of Community, efficient program operation, participant achievement and satisfaction, building and enhancing programmatic partnerships, fiscal responsibility, and quality assessment for program growth.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Experiential Learning and Residential Learning Community Curriculum and Administration:

  • Manage the residential learning community program under the direction of the Associate Director for Experiential Learning. This includes the recruitment and training of staff and student staff members, coordination of student placement, and fulfilling the MOU with Housing and Apartment and Residence Life.
  • Serve as manager for the residential peer mentor program. Develops policy and procedures for operational, administrative, and logistical processes and supporting systems.
  • Assists Associate Director in creating and implementing the strategic vision for the Residential Learning Communities program.
  • Build and manage partnerships with colleges and departments across campus to support and enhance experiential and residential learning opportunities in the UNIV classroom and in the residence halls. This includes regular meetings regarding the outcomes of the RLCs and their associated programs.
  • Develop and implement course curriculum for the residential learning communities that is experiential, themed, and major-related.
  • Develop and implement experiential and residential curriculum for the RLCs that enhance course outcomes and meet out of class learning outcomes through programming and faculty/staff/partner engagement.
  • Lead the programming initiatives for cross-campus partnerships. Develop and implement robust programming opportunities for the RLCs in collaboration with the RLC partners and faculty fellows that includes possible coursework, organized trips, and experiential learning opportunities for students.
  • Oversee programming budget, following campus fiscal policies and procedures.
  • Based on assessment and analysis of key performance indicators for the university, develop new RLCs for the university to support student retention and engagement.
  • Serves as the main point of contact for RLC campus partners (faculty/staff) that work with each RLC.
  • Create and maintain standard operating procedures for assigned programs and processes.

Assessment:
  • Assist the Director and Associate Director in developing student learning outcomes for UNIV course experiential learning curricula based on data analysis and key performance indicators. Develop assessment plans based on those SLOs and course curriculum.
  • Develop and implement assessment plans for the Residential Learning Community program.
  • Develop and implement assessment plans for experiential learning in the UNIV courses.

Teaching and Student Employee Supervision:
  • Day to day supervision of Graduate Assistants, including regular communication, retention, on-going development and recognition of staff.
  • Manage student staff, including recruitment, selection, communication, and performance oversight.
  • Manage the development and training of student staff for their roles inside and outside of the residential learning communities based on the diversified needs of the UNIV courses and RLCs.
  • Teach UNIV courses focused on student success and academic readiness topics.

Performs other duties assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Master’s degree.
  • Three (3) years of experience with advising, student development and supervision, peer mentor programs, tutoring, supplemental instruction, first year seminars, first year programming, or equivalent relevant experience with student success initiatives.
  • Licenses: Class “C” Operator’s Driver’s License
  • The applicant selected must provide a current three-year Driving Record from the current state of residence.
  • If not currently a Texas resident, you must obtain a Texas Driver’s License within 30 days after entering Texas as a new resident.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Five (5) years of experience with advising, student development and supervision, peer mentor programs, tutoring, supplemental instruction, first year seminars, first year programming, or equivalent relevant experience with student success initiatives.
  • Experience with Residential Learning Communities/Living Learning Communities.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of project and program management, change management, assessment, residential learning experience and first year student trends and issues.
  • Ability to manage cross-functional projects of moderate to high complexity and manage some projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent organizational skills with a strong attention to details.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer relationship skills.
  • Proficient meeting, facilitation, and presentation skills for all types of engagements.
  • Proficient listening and writing skills, good executive presence, verbally articulate.
