PROGRAM MANAGER, Biological Engineering, to assume a position with the Army Center for Synthetic Biology, a joint program between MIT and Stanford involving a dozen additional U.S. universities. Will coordinate multidisciplinary research efforts between MIT, Stanford University, other U.S. university collaborators, and U.S. Army researchers. Responsibilities will include managing the day-to-day operations and administration for the Army Center for Synthetic Biology program; coordinating research and interactions with the funding agency (U.S. Army, Army Science and Technology Enterprise); the public presentation of material; communication with sponsors and research partners; writing and managing federal grants; and performing other tasks and operational functions as assigned.
The center's research will apply synthetic biology to design advanced materials and engineer environmental microbial communities. This involves the integration of materials science, computational modeling, and biomanufacturing to create new biomaterials with precise control over their functional properties. The center will also identify microbial consortia amenable to carry synthetic functions, rendering them receptive to engineering, designing genetic functions, and simulating environments to test engineered microbes.
