Description

 

Manages the day-to-day operations of a small or medium-sized university program or department. May supervise staff employees, student workers, programs or processes.

  • Plans and develops procedures for administering a small or medium-sized department or program.
  • Oversees program expenditures and ensures adherence to budget.
  • Provides guidance to subordinate staff and evaluates performance.
  • May prepare or participate in the creation of abstracts, research reports, funding proposals, operations and procedure manuals, and other written material and documentation.
  • Reviews reports of budgets and activities.
  • Prepares ad hoc reports as needed.
  • May administer grants and grant-related related communications, scholarships and other operations.
  • Develops, implements and maintains appropriate policies and procedures.
  • May serve as property custodian for the department.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

     

    Bachelors and No experience

    Education: Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline. Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained through a formal, directly job-related 4 year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed. Experience: No experience required.

    ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:



    • Familiar with creating and working with budgets and willing to learn the intricacies of the University of Houston Law Center's budgeting system 

    • Attends to administrative tasks in a highly detailed, systematic, and organized manner 

    • Works well independently, is a self-starter, and takes initiative 

    • Dependable and reliable as a vital member of a small team 

    • A quick learner with the ability to apply newly introduced information efficiently and effectively  

    • Familiar with Microsoft platforms such as Word, Outlook, Forms, Teams, SharePoint, PowerPoint, and Excel. 

    • Familiar with Google Drive and Zoom 

    • Able to address urgent department matters as they arise 

    • Willing to assist in Program Director and program development on a micro and macro level.  

    • Works well with and collaborates with others, including the Program Director, college work-study students, and graduate student workers 

    • Able to manage and supervise a small team, including the ability to delegate tasks 

    • Prompt and timely with assigned tasks and deadlines. 

    • Creative and resourceful in developing new program management concepts, such as surveys, polls, and engagement assessments 

    • Able to prepare and put on presentations (virtually and in-person) for the department to prospective program participants 

    • Demonstrates professionalism, including etiquette, attire, and communication
