INFECTIOUS DISEASES (IN-INFD-IUINA)

The Division of Infectious Diseases is home to 30 plus full-time faculty, 10 affiliate faculty, 5 Advanced Practice Providers, 4 - 6 ACGME fellows and 30 plus full-time staff directly supporting all three missions of research, education, and clinical practice. The fellowship program is ACGME accredited and combines excellent clinical and academic training. We play an active role in the education of learners from the medical student level through fellowship.

Clinical practice takes place at 5 hospitals within the Indiana University Health (IUH) System, Eskenazi Health Hospital (Marion County's safety net hospital), the Roudebush VA, and specialized care at the bone marrow transplant unit at St. Francis Hospital and orthopedic complications at OrthoIndy.

The Division has a rich history in research and currently has $7.6 plus million in extramural funding from the NIH and industry. We hold several endowments including an endowed chair, and endowed fellowship position, and an endowment which supports research related to HIV.

The division footprint includes 8,417 square feet of administrative space and 7,280 square feet of research space.

Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Leads expansion of the statewide clinical clerkship program.
  • Identifies, engages, and onboards new educational sites and physician teachers to enrich and expand the reach of Undergraduate Medical Education.
  • Works with IUSM faculty and leadership to develop and implement a strategic plan for statewide clinical clerkship expansion.
  • Conducts research to identify potential educational sites and healthcare facilities suitable for program expansion.
  • Cultivates relationships with educational institutions, hospitals, clinics, and other healthcare organizations to secure partnerships and expand the program's presence.
  • Facilitates the onboarding process for new educational sites and physician teachers, ensuring a smooth transition into the program.
  • Evaluates site(s) suitability based on curriculum needs, facilities, and alignment with program standards.

  General Responsibilities

  • Plans, directs and implements programs or events, including the creation of materials to support these events.
  • Provides staff communications and serves as liaison to program participants, collaborators in other units, community partners, vendors and the public; approves staff purchase requests; arranges staff travel, accommodations, and research activities.
  • Provides mechanisms, training, and advice on a variety of issues such as budget management software and advanced strategies for timely spending of grant funds. May be responsible for meeting revenue targets.
  • Recruits, trains, directs, schedules, and evaluates faculty and staff partners, students and volunteers. Mentors, serves as a resource and provides guidance to team staff members as needed.
  • Researches available grants and works closely with managers to identify funding needs and potential sources, creates grant proposals that further advance support of the program and program participants; May be responsible for meeting revenue targets.
  • Constructs and administers program budgets and approves spending. Tracks progress on deliverables, analyzes data on projected spending and prepares reports for higher management and funding sources.
  • Keep abreast of best practices to recommend policies and procedures that deliver a quality program experience.

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

Must have reliable transportation for statewide travel to conduct site visits and meetings.
