Orange Coast College (OCC) is seeking an equity-minded, classified professional as a Program Facilitator-Global Engagement within the Student Services wing.

The Global Engagement Center serves the OCC campus community through recruitment, admission, and support services for international students, study abroad services for students and faculty, the IEC@OCC Intensive English program, support for the Multicultural Center, and through global and multicultural events.
Summary
Provides assistance to specially funded student, community-based, or adult training and programs that contribute to and encourage attendance and retention for targeted students or groups. Programs could include foster parents, community education, first-time college attendees, and/or populations disadvantaged by socioeconomic, gender, ethnic, or other designations.
Distinguishing Career Features
The Program Facilitator provides administrative support to the effective performance of targeted, specially funded programs that enhance exposure to and engagement of specific student populations, such as but not limited to those in international programs and co-curricular activities. The Program Facilitator must demonstrate success in working with a wide range of students of varying abilities and backgrounds, including economically, socially, and culturally diverse students of different ethnic backgrounds. The Program Facilitator will learn and demonstrate competent knowledge of student visa and travel requirements. The Program Facilitator must also demonstrate the ability to organize, sequence, and lead activities that include collaboration with other District or campus services and outside organizations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Specific duties may vary among departments, divisions, and jobs. Incumbents typically perform a substantial portion or all of the following types of duties, as assigned:
  • Assists in program planning phases and implements programs to enhance international student engagement through activities such as, but not limited to, Navigate OCC orientation program, multi-cultural enhancement, social introduction, workshops, and support that provides easy access to services such as individualized tutoring, assessments, and financial aid. 
  • Conducts information and advisement sessions for F1 visa obligations and benefits to ensure reporting obligations are met on the state and federal levels. 
  • Assists students with identifying opportunities, processing applications, and ongoing support to those actively engaged in college-sponsored study abroad programs. 
  • Works with team and Associate Dean to ensure consistency in advising and appropriate division of workload. 
  • Collaborates with Student Life and Leadership to provide various in-service training and volunteer experiences on campus and in the community designed to enhance acceptance and participation in co-circular activities such as student government and leadership. 
  • Works closely with Associated Students, student clubs, the honors program, and other student groups to collaborate on events connecting students with each other. 
  • Assists with identifying and arranging for outside vendors/contractors and organizations from other industry sector organizations for services, performances, speakers, and material support. 
  • Assists the Associate Dean in ensuring that SEVIS reporting obligations are met and processing of IEC@OCC intensive English program admissions. 
  • Prepares, distributes, and prepares reports of results from student satisfaction surveys after the conclusion of special events and activities. Recommends new and modified student engagement activities from survey feedback. 
  • Creates informational materials and publications supporting the Global Engagement and Multicultural Centers in collaboration with Marketing and Public Relations. 
  • Participates with other services in the campus community to create, generate, and carry out innovative ideas and processes to enhance student involvement. 
  • Oversees and schedules events, student development activities, cultural trips, speakers, and other activities that encourage students to participate in college life. May include partnering with other departments on events such as Outreach, Equity, CLEEO, UMOJA, and others.
  • Provides functional assistance and support to faculty assigned to student support services programs. 
  • Assists with and may prepare funding proposals. Researches and recommends program and activity budgets. Carries out expenditure of project funds according to fiscal guidelines. 
  • Maintains records of grant funds or contracted expenditures. Assists with evaluation of, and reporting for program components and services. 
  • Researches and compiles demographic and statistical data related to program participants. Monitors outcomes for grant awards. 
  • Ensures compliance with all applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. Oversees the maintenance of all records including computer-aided student databases. Ensures confidentiality of student information. 
  • Participates in a variety of campus/college, education, and grantee committees and functions that promote student retention and achievement. 
  • Assesses the need for informational materials and publications supporting the Global Engagement and Multicultural Centers in collaboration with Marketing and Public Relations. 
  • May maintain and update website pages using established formats and standards. 
  • Performs other related duties as assigned that support the objective of the position.
  • Required to abide by all District policies and procedures including Board Policy 3050 – Code of Professional Ethics.

  • The position requires specialized knowledge of educational and student services program goals and objectives, procedures, and regulations. 
  • Requires a working knowledge of the education and administrative services provided by the District, as well as special programs designed for student engagement and enrichment. 
  • Requires specialized knowledge of the role of cultural, social, and economic differences impacting the ability of students to achieve academic success. 
  • Requires in-depth knowledge of regional and community demographics including the needs of international and disadvantaged students, age-appropriate learning, and community resources. 
  • Requires a working knowledge of mentoring and tutoring techniques as well as study skill development methods. 
  • Requires professional-level writing skills to prepare grants and performance reports. 
  • Requires math skills sufficient to read and analyze budget documents. 
  • Requires well-developed human relations skills to make formal presentations, facilitate group processes, and exercise sensitivity to diverse populations in school site and community environments.

  • Requires the ability to maintain confidentiality of private and sensitive information. 
  • Requires the ability to secure funding, secure local interagency partnerships, and accomplish goals within financial limitations. 
  • Requires the ability to maintain productive and cooperative working relationships with others. 
Physical Abilities
  • The general physical demands, working conditions, and essential job functions associated with this classification will be kept on file with the Office of Human Resources.

  • The position typically requires a Bachelor’s degree in a behavioral science, social science, business, education, or a related area and two years of experience in an outreach-oriented student services program, preferably in higher education.

Licenses and Certificates
  • May require a valid driver's license. 
  • U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Residence is required for SEVIS access.

  • Work is performed indoors where health and safety considerations are minimal.

(ON-CAMPUS - in-person position)  
This is a permanent, 12-month-per-year classified position.  The normal hours of work will be Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, with the flexibility to occasionally work extended hours and/or weekends, if necessary, to meet the needs of the department.  The effective date of employment will be arranged with the supervisor.  
(Salary Range EE-120)

Pay Philosophy:
