Position Summary and Duties
Provides leadership and strategic direction to achieve the University’s comprehensive sustainability goals. The Program Director works closely across all divisions and with students, faculty and staff to advance sustainability in all aspects of the campus including academic programs, campus planning, facilities operations, co-curricular student opportunities and other areas as needed to support University sustainability efforts.
University Sustainability 
• Provides leadership with division heads and directors and engages the community to develop and implement a dynamic sustainability program guided by the recommendations in the Climate Action Plan with short and long-range implementation strategies and programs.
• Establishes goals and priorities and tracks the university’s progress toward established energy and carbon emission reduction goals as outlined in the Climate Action Plan.  Revise and makes recommendations for additional goals to advance university efforts.
• Leads sustainability initiatives by providing research, information and assistance to campus departments, and student organizations in development and implementation. Advance sustainability programs and initiatives such as recycling and composting, Green Office, Recyclemania, No Impact Week, Good Stuff Campaign, St. Francis Feast, etc. 
• Advance and develop education programs to advance sustainability as a core value across campus, including generating content for communications initiatives and managing the sustainability website, social media and events. 
• Connects sustainability to campus diversity initiatives and promotes environmental and social justice in all initiatives.
Presents program reviews and updates to University constituents.
Engaging the Community
• Co-chairs the Sustainability Committee (a committee of the Loyola Conference) with a broad campus representation.
• Manage and advance the Loyola Arboretum Collection and engagement programs as a means for advancing and integrating sustainability as part of the Loyola community and as a part of our larger community in Baltimore City (and Maryland).
• Serves as internal leader as the subject matter expert for sustainability, monitoring emerging trends programs and issues, and communicating and educating others on sustainability topics.
• Develops shared goals with connections to other campus priorities and initiatives including Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. Fosters a welcoming and affirming and diverse environment.
• Works with all aspects of the residential and academic campus community, including students, faculty and staff to promote an understanding and awareness of sustainability issues by coordinating informational trainings and presentations and promoting energy and water conservation, waste minimization, recycling, sustainable buildings and landscape design, the arboretum, alternative transportation, procurement of green products, etc
• Supports and fosters student leadership and engagement in sustainability initiatives.
• Represents the university at local, regional and national sustainability organizations such as AASHE, and B’CAUSE.
• Networks with peer institutions in order to understand the evolving best practices and look for opportunities for collaboration to forward common goals.
• Builds effective partnerships with external organizations to support sustainability efforts.
Administration
• Evaluate and advance sustainability initiatives from multiple perspectives—return on investment; progress on the Climate Action Plan; impact on campus and campus community, etc.
• Works with vendors to manage the information provided for greenhouse gas reporting and benchmarking.
• Track university data related to sustainability, including waste, water, fuel and energy. Prepare reports and develop and maintain tools, metrics and indicators for assessing progress towards sustainability goals. Compile annual reports. Monitor and report progress of sustainability goals highlighted in the university’s Climate Action Plan.
• Manage student interns.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field.
  • 5-8 years of related work experience.
  • Strong ability to work as part of a team as well as to work independently on a wide variety of projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop positive collaborative relationships and experience in facilitation of collaborative processes to achieve a consensus outcomes.
  • Experience developing long-term strategic initiatives and in implementing, assessing and engaging communities in them.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple concurrent projects, and demonstrate effective time management skills.
  • Demonstrated adaptability and initiative, including a willingness to seek and integrate information from multiple sources, and to take initiative to anticipate programmatic needs.
  • Sound judgment in decision-making and ability to think strategically.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and promote inclusive programs that engage all members of the community.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills with experience communicating with multiple diverse audiences.
  • Strong human relations and interpersonal skills including an ability to interact professionally and communicate in a clear and courteous manner with a diverse community in order to maintain effective, professional, and cooperative working relationships across all levels on campus and with external audiences.
  • Proficiency in database and web site development, and the Microsoft Office and Google suites

Preferred Qualifications
Master’s Degree preferred.
