Job Description:

Reporting directly to the Executive Director of BerkleeNYC the Program Director of Live Music Production and Design provides strategic leadership and oversight for the Live Music Production and Design specialization at BerkleeNYC. The LMPD Program Director manages all faculty teaching pertaining to their department; reviews and oversees curriculum; recommends curriculum revisions; co-designs the recruitment plan for LMPD; and develops and manages student advising and program developments that support and promote student learning and success. As a senior leader of the BNYC team, you will provide strategic leadership in setting annual goals and expectations for technology for BNYC academic programming. You will also serve on a variety of Berklee and BNYC committees as appropriate, as noted below.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Program Director for Song Writing And Production:

● Provide vision, strategic leadership and oversight for the LMPD specialization
● Manage faculty recruitment, hiring, and performance reviews
○ Supervise and mentor full-time and part-time faculty
● Oversee curriculum development, reviews, and revisions
○ Ensure program offerings are aligned with BerkleeNYC’s mission and vision and effectively implemented on campus
○ Ensure curriculum design is relevant and consistent with the established learning outcomes
○ Identify and build new curriculum as needed

● Design and lead the recruitment strategy and enrollment process for LMPD in cooperation with Executive Director, BNYC

● Teach courses for LMPD students as needed
● Develop, manage, and evaluate the annual LMPD budget
● Supervise 1 graduate fellow and student works (as applicable)
● Advise LMPD student on successful completion of their Culminating Experience project.
● Design workshops that support BNYC faculty in using and integrating academic technology in classrooms and curricula (as needed)

 

As a member of the leadership team:
● Develop strategic plans and visions for future technology implementations within the academic context.
● Serve as Executive Producer of BNYC Commencement Concert (TBD)
● Serve as Producer & Co-Artistic Director of the various campus concert series.
● Participate in college committees, as appropriate.
○ Berklee Academic Leadership Committee
○ BNYC Academic Leadership Team
● Develop an efficient organizational framework and system planning approach for configuring classrooms across all academic programs.
● Maintain a profile as an artist & music technologist.
● Participate in industry events for networking and recruiting purposes and to increase campus visibility

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
● Demonstrated commitment to diversity, fairness, and equal opportunity.
● Master’s degree with appropriate experience preferred; equivalent professional experience in music production or music technology considered.
● Extensive working knowledge of music technology in production and performance.
● Significant professional achievement as an active, accomplished and innovative music technologist
● Expertise with a wide range of technology tools including software and hardware, audio and video systems, recording studios, DJ and production equipment.
● Expertise and experience in live event development, production and execution at a high level and to a professional standard.
● Demonstrated familiarity with all styles of contemporary music and current musical trends and the ability to effectively integrate such music into the curriculum
● Outstanding record as an educator, teaching and developing curriculum, preferably in a university or college setting.
● Administrative experience, preferably in a university or college setting, which demonstrates effective leadership and management skills.
● The ability to effectively create and manage departmental budgets and schedules.
● Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to promote a vision and motivate a team to realize projects.
● Excellent communication, listening, interpersonal, project management and organizational skills.
● Culturally sensitive to a wide variety of backgrounds and communication styles.
● Flexibility to adapt to changing surroundings and situations.
● Ability to work in both traditional and nontraditional settings.
● Ability to navigate within a complex academic setting and build and cultivate relationships.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES (as of 2023)
● One full-time and four part-time faculty members
● One Graduate Fellow
● Graduate Assistant event staff (student employees)

The salary range for this position is $135,000 - $148,000 annually.
