PROGRAM DIRECTOR II

The UAB Division of Infectious Diseases seeks a Program Director II to be the lead administrator for a global research unit within the division. The PD will advise and mentor junior administrators. The PD II will manage faculty research programs and foster interdisciplinary research collaboration among UAB scientists, nationally, and globally. The PD II should be knowledgeable about the conduct of research, experienced in project management including pre- and post-award as well as regulatory, and capable of independent problem solving. Current research programs focus on global health and are funded by industry, foundation and federal sponsors. The PD II will correspond with sponsors, prepare budgets, initiate and contribute to contract negotiation, and perform other project related activities on a national and global level. Must exhibit flexibility and cope effectively in an ever-changing, fast-paced environment, perform effectively when confronted with critical, unusual situations, demonstrate the quality work ethic and maintain a customer focus with faculty, staff and colleagues across campus and the globe.

 

Key Roles & Responsibilities

  • Directs operations of a programmatic function.
  • Operates with a high degree of independence.
  • Responsible for program development, content, and administration.
  • Establishes program objectives, manages programmatic fiscal activities, supervises staff engaged in carrying out program activities and may require grant writing and/or other ability to secure program funding.
  • Prepares various reports for program
  • Primary point-of-contact for all funding opportunities including participation in preparing grant applications, budgets, budget justifications, checklists, transfers, contracts, and subawards and annual progress reports. Mentor junior administrators in these activities. 
  • Fiscal responsibilities include: account reconciliations; independently assessing need and performing financial transactions including account number requests, cost transfers, rebudgets, revenue distribution agreements, recertifications, salary reclasses; working with accountants to ensure accurate accounting and reporting of funds and expenditures. 
  • Track and adjust effort to produce correct and compliant effort reports for faculty and research staff. Complete and assure accuracy of over-the-cap effort reporting. 
  • Serve as liaison between PIs and researcher sites, collaborators, and sponsors.
  • Serve as the unit's designated approver for all payment requests, requisitions.
  •  Direct and manage the resources of the research program - fiscal, staff, space, supplies, etc
  • Coordinate research program HR issues with the division HR Generalist: work with faculty to staff research programs including hiring research staff, postdocs and students and understanding and utilizing consultant and fee-for-service arrangements; staff admin team after turnover, including position creation and posting, interviews and hiring, training, and supervising.
  • Research and troubleshoot unique, compliant solutions to unique challenges

Salary Range: $60,835 - $98,855

 

Qualifications

 

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field
  • And five (5) years of related experience required
  • Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement
