That’s why academic medicine, and the continuous pursuit of knowledge, is at the center of everything we do at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW). In the role of a  Program Director II  you will beworking in Cell Biology, Neurobiology and Anatomy .  


Purpose

Under administrative direction and with the broadest span of control, oversee the activities of the Electron Microscopy and High Resolution Imaging Cores at MCW.  This is an Institution-wide core coalescing the current electron microscopy core and the current live cell imaging core, both managed by CBNA, providing both research and clinical diagnostic imaging services (in specified areas)  This position have responsibility for the overall management and functioning of the core, providing direction and guidance to the Team to facilitate the achievement of the program’s goals.

Primary Functions

  • Manage strategy for acquisition of new technology for the HRIC core. Help research staff perform and design  

  experiments utilizing technology within the core.

  • Troubleshoot experimental workflows and help researchers collect and process data for grants and papers.
  • Assist with technology development and optimization of workflows.
  • Oversee management and service of equipment within the HRIC Core.
  • Work with closely affiliated entities – the Office of Research and CBNA – to meet administrative and financial  

  remit of the HRIC Core.

  • Provide leadership and manage staff associated with core. This will likely encompass one staff member

 supporting EM sample processing, and one staff member supporting imaging. Perform performance reviews  

 and help staff with their professional development.

  • Liaise with the clinical EM workflow to help support clinical sample processing.

      •   Direct program development.

    •   May advise on or have approval authority for management responsibilities such as scheduling people and

        material resources, developing and managing program budget, maintaining program timelines, managing

        program outreach activities including acting as a liaison with community organizations.

  •  Monitor quality assurance and compliance issues.

  •  Participate on appropriate committees relevant to the advancement of the program and the profession or area of research.

  •  Ensure compliance with regulatory and institutional policies.

  •  Direct the organization of internal and external meetings, site visits, and special events.

Preferred Schedule:
Monday - Friday 8:00-5:00

Position Requirements:

Minimum Required Education:               Bachelor’s degree

Minimum Required Experience:             10 years

Preferred Education:                             PhD in Biotechnology preferred

Preferred Experience:                            Multiple years of progressive experience in electron microscopy and high resolution imaging
