Job Description:

Accelerate, Complete, Engage (ACE) is a comprehensive academic support program designed to help students in specific at-risk economic and educational categories complete their academic journey to the bachelor's degree on time. Modeled on the principles of CUNY's highly successful and nationally recognized Accelerated Study in Associate Programs (ASAP), ACE provides intensive academic advisement, career development, tuition scholarships, textbooks, and transportation assistance. The replication program will launch at SUNY Polytechnic Institute in Fall 2024, with the inaugural ACE Program Director to serve as the university's Program Director for Retention. In this role, the incumbent will work closely with faculty, staff, and administrators at SUNY Poly, as well as with ACE Program Staff, to organize all of the elements necessary to make ACE successful, and further strengthen retention at SUNY Poly.

Reporting to the Provost, the Program Director for Retention provides leadership and general day-to-day oversight and successful delivery of a comprehensive program of academic, advisement, career and financial supports for program students. The director will represent SUNY Poly on all relevant ACE committees, within and outside the university, develop and maintain relationships that create buy in and allow the program to operate successfully at SUNY Poly. The director will implement ACE policy, and well as develop local retention policies and processes, to meet the Program's mission, as well as develop the local strategy to meet SUNY Poly's enrollment/retention targets each semester. This position oversees the ACE Academic Advisor and works with the Office of Institutional Research to regularly enter, share and analyze engagement and outcomes data to ensure successful progress toward student success and performance benchmarks.

  • Oversee the development and timely implementation of strategies and delivery of supports to improve retention, including high-touch advisement and academic supports for students in the ACE program. Provide leadership, oversight and direction to direct reports and SUNY Poly colleagues to assure goals, programs, activities, and personnel practices are consistent with and contribute to the institution's retention goals and strategies. Manage budget allocated to the ACE program.  Will complete performance management feedback timely leading direct reports to maximum potential and productivity.
  • Lead and oversee the ACE Academic Advisor; Develop strategy and processes to reach retention and graduation rate targets, working with SUNY Poly departments integral to programming including admissions, advising center, dean of students, registrar, career services, financial aid, and others. Works with the Office of Institutional Research to regularly enter, share and analyze engagement and outcomes data to ensure successful progress toward student success and performance benchmarks.
  • Monitor the development of a comprehensive framework to provide opportunities for ACE students to progress toward career success.
  • Create, lead and manage program component delivery and data collection to ensure successful progress towards student engagement and program academic performance benchmarks, in collaboration with Director of Student Academic Success.
  • Regularly attend required meetings with Central ASAP|ACE staff, prepare reports, and share outcomes each semester with SUNY Poly Leadership.
  • Other reasonable duties as assigned.

Salary: $65,000-75,000

This position supervises an ACE Academic Advisor and may supervise others as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in education, social sciences, counseling, social work, and/or related field from a College or University accredited by the US Department of Education or other internationally recognized accrediting organization, and five years of relevant experience; or a Master's degree in education, social sciences, counseling, social work, and/or related field from a College or University accredited by the US Department of Education or other internationally recognized accrediting organization and three years of relevant experience.

  • Strong management and supervisory skills, ability to manage change and build productive teams;
  • Demonstrated budget oversight and planning experience;
  • Demonstrated successful program management experience, including strategy development;
  • Demonstrated experience working with historically marginalized racial groups in the U.S in education, particularly Black, Indigenous, and Latinx;
  • Demonstrated ability to cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with students, faculty, staff and external stakeholders;
  • Excellent organization, project management, communication, and facilitation skills;
  • Proficient computer skills, particularly Microsoft Office; CUNY first and Tableau data visualization software a plus.
