Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The Program Director provides strategic vision and guidance for family and supporter engagement, program functions, and outreach of the office, including family and supporter components of New Student Orientation, Family Weekend, Niner Nation Family Association, Family Council, and the 49er Family Hub, in addition to other innovative initiatives and services within the unit. As a member of the Dean of Students Office, all staff members advise, counsel, and serve as advocates for students experiencing difficulties or crises. All positions require the flexibility, ability, and willingness to work nights and weekends in structured and unstructured settings with students, families, staff, and faculty.
- Supervise and evaluate one (1) program coordinator.
- Manage all logistics and function of unit programs including, but not limited to: Family Weekend, new family move-in reception, family orientation, Niner Nation Family Association, Family Council, and 49er Family Hub.
- Develop, execute, and review assessment initiatives for program area.
- Supervise development and implementation of online event registration, in-person and virtual events, social media, and mobile app systems.
- Create vision for, and oversee execution of, family communication initiatives, including 49er Family Hub content, Niner Nation Family magazine, social media, and other publications.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for emergency communication distribution to families and supporters.
- Manage the Family Council, a leadership-based donor board, including on-going interaction and engagement with members, assistance in the recruitment and retention of members, distribution of information, coordination of meetings and membership, and recognition and appreciation initiatives.
- Supervise administrative functioning of family transitions and success programs including policy development and interpretation for Family Weekend, new family move-in reception, Niner Nation Family Association, and other programs.
- Provide project management for initiatives related to the transition of new families and supporters, including the execution of program details.
- Develop and implement events, their schedules, all associated logistics.
- Communicate all program expectations, dates and deadlines, and assessment results with campus partners.
- Supervise budgetary implementation related to programs, including fee development, student staffing and in-program expenses.
- Oversee the recruitment, selection, and training processes for employed undergraduate student staff and graduate assistant(s).
Minimum Experience / Education:
- A Master's degree in Student Personnel, Counseling, Higher Education or related field.
- Two years of professional experience in parent, family and supporter programs or orientation and transition programs.
- Knowledge of, and practice in, student development theory, counseling and advising practices, current transfer student initiatives, and family issues and programming.
- Experience writing, editing, and publishing content for university programs.
- Experience planning, executing, and assessing large-scale events.
- Awareness and understanding of the transitional needs of family members of college students.
- Ability to organize, implement, and evaluate student programs.
Preferred Education Skills and Experience:
- Active membership in AHEPPP, NODA, or similar professional organizations.
- History of professional publications, presentations, and involvement.
- Experience utilizing CRM and/or communications platforms.
