Job Description Summary:
The family medicine residency program director is responsible for leading residency education in the family medicine center, hospital and community; selecting, supervising and evaluating residents and faculty; assuring that residency educational goals and objectives are met; and complying with requirements of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education.

Required Qualifications:
  • M.D. or D.O. degree
  • ABFM certified
  • Unrestricted Kansas license to practice medicine
  • DEA number
  • Wesley Medical Center hospital privileges
  • Experience teaching medical students and residents
  • Meets ACGME requirements for program director of family medicine residency program
  • Prior participation to gain or maintain full ACGME program accreditation
  • Proven leadership capability

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Qualified for appointment at Clinical Associate Professor level
  • Previous administrative role in a family medicine residency program
  • Proven participation in building an excellent family medicine residency program
  • Prior participation in development of residency budget and work with GME funding
  • Demonstrated ability to develop educational curriculum
  • Demonstrated ability to manage successful recruitment process
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct scholarly activity and research with faculty and residents
  • Vision to lead a residency patient-centered medical home
  • Background in medical business office function
  • Practice experience
  • Completion of academic fellowship or National Institute of Program Director Development

Job Duties Outlined:

  • Facilitates the smooth functioning and integration of both in-patient and out-patient family medicine teaching services
  • Coordinates all levels of residency education at the family medicine center, hospital and the community
  • Selects and supervises the residents
  • Selects and supervises, in consultation with the Chair of the Department of Family & Community Medicine, the faculty and other program personnel
  • Develops educational goals and objectives of program
  • Provides resident evaluation, coaching, remediation opportunities, well-being monitoring and support, potential probationary and termination actions
  • Responsible for faculty evaluations
  • Assures that the requirements established by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education and the Family Medicine Review Committee are met by the program
  • Provides verification of resident eligibility to enter American Board of Family Medicine Maintenance of Certification process
  • Works with the Chair and Designated Institutional Official (DIO) to meet program and institutional ACGME requirements
  • Serves as a member of the KUSM-W Graduate Medical Education Committee
  • As a clinical faculty member of the university, works to achieve the mission of the Department of Family & Community Medicine and university
