The Hofstra-Northwell School of Nursing & Physician Assistant Studies will seek an experienced program leader and highly motivated doctoral prepared Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) to join the School of Nursing as a Program Director of the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP)-Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AGACNP)/Nurse Anesthesia degree program. This person will be part of the Academic Practice Partnership between the integrated Northwell Health and School of Nursing faculty.
Strategic leadership qualification is essential and contribution to the mission of Northwell Health and Hofstra University to increase the number of highly qualified CRNAs in the region and help address the CRNA workforce gap throughout the state. The Program Director is integral to sustaining the innovative partnership with Northwell Health as well as outside stakeholders. The program director will aid in supporting existing Northwell Health and SON pipelines for health care professionals from, and interested in, working in diverse and underserved communities.
This position will serve as a full-time, non-tenured faculty at the assistant, or associate rank. All applicants must meet be based in the New York area and meet all State of New York licensure, board-certification, and experience requirements needed to successfully practice within the state. Candidates must also be familiar with NY CRNA scope of practice policies, requirements, and procedures and be familiar with the geographic regions and needs of the state.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Program Director of the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP)-Nurse Anesthesia degree program will play a significant role in the strategic planning of the curriculum, mission and outcomes of the program, the Program Director directs the organizational administration of the nurse anesthesia program; providing leadership and oversight of all aspects of the educational program including but not limited to governance, didactic and clinical curriculum, recruitment, accreditation, and evaluation.
The Program Director/Program Administrator will report to the Chair of the School of Nursing 
TEACHING RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Responsibilities include working in collaboration with the Program Assistant Director and program faculty to ensure quality program curriculum and instruction in the didactic phase of the program. The Program Director/Program Administrator could have the opportunity to participate in recruitment of the Assistant Director.
  • Duties include course management, teaching, skills labs, student advisement, and student formative and summative evaluation. Responsibilities may also include participation in student remediation, test writing and analysis, program admissions, accreditation processes and program assessment to include serving on committees essential to the DNP-Nurse Anesthesia program and school's functioning.

  • CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Successful full-time candidates provide clinical services at Northwell Health and must meet credentialling requirements of Northwell Health
  • This role includes direct patient care and precepting CRNA students
  • The incumbent mentors students in the clinical setting. This includes overseeing procedures, providing feedback, and assisting with training.

  • SERVICE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide service to the School of Nursing, Hofstra University & Northwell Health 
  • Provide mentoring to graduate students, including serving, as chair or committee member for scholarly projects.

  • CRITERIA:
    A candidate for appointment is evaluated by the following criteria, which is appropriately weighted according to the primary emphasis on clinical and clinically relevant teaching and patient care services and according to the needs of the school and the individual's responsibilities in the specific discipline. The four criteria are:

  • Qualifications:


  • Doctoral degree (PhD, DNP, DNAP or equivalent) from an accredited institution of higher education that was accredited by an agency officially recognized by the US Secretary of Education to accredit institutions at the time the degree was conferred.
  • Graduate preparation in the basic and clinical sciences relevant to nurse anesthesia practice.
  • Unencumbered License to practice as an RN in New York
  • Current certification/recertification as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) by the National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists (NBCRNA).
  • Minimum of three to five years of leadership experience in higher education and clinical experience as a practicing CRNA; obtained within the United States.
  • Possess D.E.A. certification or be eligible for certification as applicable.
  • Possess ACLS/BLS certification.
  • Must be comfortable in a highly interactive teaching/learning environment that includes collaborative teaching, significant faculty/student interaction and strong clinical integration.
  • Must demonstrate excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be able to work full-time, in-person.

  • Minimum of three to five years of academic program administration in an educational program of anesthesia with higher education teaching experience.
  • Experience in curriculum, instruction, and evaluation – includes completed educational content, evidenced on a transcript from an accredited institution of higher education or an AANA approved continuing education program, or a CE program approved by another nationally recognized professional approval organization.
  • Simulation experience in a high-fidelity lab accredited nurse anesthesia program.
  • Actively participate in the admissions process in recruitment of a diverse student cohort in a nurse anesthesia program.
  • Review of clinical midterm & summative performance of nurse anesthesia student evaluations.
  • Provide counseling to students involved in unsatisfactory clinical performances, and develop appropriate remediation plans and disciplinary actions.
  • Partner with team to ensure adequate affiliation agreements/contracts for off-campus clinical sites as well as off-campus clinical coordinators and preceptors.
  • Current knowledge of CRNA practice and related professional issues.
  • Current knowledge of institutional and programmatic accreditation requirements for nurse anesthesia educational programs.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of environmental issues that may influence the program and nurse anesthesia practice by engaging in professional development. Issues can include, but are not limited to, community and workforce needs, changes in financial and clinical resources, state and federal regulatory requirements, accreditation requirements, scope of practice, educational environments, healthcare reimbursement and technology advancements.
