Overview
The Rutgers University Center for Advanced Infrastructure and Transportation (CAIT) tackles some of the country’s most pressing infrastructure challenges, especially those that are endemic in high-volume multimodal corridors like the Northeast. The bulk of our efforts fall within several broad areas: assessing and monitoring the health of bridges, roads, and pipelines; creating and implementing revolutionary technologies, materials, and tools; formulating strategies to prolong the service life of infrastructure; and training the current and future workforce. Since 1998, CAIT has been a University Transportation Center (UTC)—a group of academic research institutions sanctioned and supported by the U.S. Department of Transportation. It was named the Region 2 UTC in 2018, and since 2023 has been a member of the National Center for Infrastructure Transformation.
Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Program Development Specialist for the Center for Advanced Infrastructure and Transportation (CAIT) within the School of Engineering. Reporting to the Associate Director and Executive Director of CAIT, this position will provide critical project management, training program development, and communications and marketing development to the Center.
Among the key duties of the position are the following:
  • Focuses on research project management and program development for key CAIT clients including NJ Transit, the USDOT, and others.
  • Works closely with CAIT affiliated faculty and Principal Investigators to ensure that research projects are successfully delivered on time and within budget.
  • Develops and utilizes project tracking tools such as GANTT charts and Microsoft Project, and be responsible for handling project data, managing consultants, and regularly communicating status updates to CAIT clients.
  • Be a leader in developing and operating CAIT’s workforce training portfolio, such as the North American Regional Training Center program. Communication and marketing are another major component of this position.
  • Directs CAIT’s marketing and communication strategy, and be responsible for executing all related tasks such as coordinating media interviews, developing press releases, managing CAIT’s E-Newsletter, conducting webinars, and enhancing the brand of CAIT and Rutgers University.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • Requires a Masters’ degree in marketing, public relations, communication, journalism, English, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates general knowledge, skill, and understanding of public relations, marketing, event execution, proofreading, writing, copyediting, print production, promotional advertising, organization, and/or coordination.
  • Also requires a minimum of three years of relevant professional research experience, excellent communication skills, and computer literacy.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interact professionally and effectively with journalists, campus leaders, faculty, administrators, and vendors.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Microsoft Project, Wordpress, inDesign, Illustrator, and Webex/Teams/Zoom experience preferred.
  • Ability in written and oral communications, including researching, writing, editing, proofreading, and presenting is preferred.
  • Familiarity/working knowledge of graphic support applications such as Photoshop is preferred.
Equipment Utilized
  • Software skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Project and project management software is required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.) and Adobe Acrobat required. Proficiency in WordPress is required.
  • Proficiency in Adobe InDesign and Illustrator is required.
