Position Summary Information

Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The Duke-UNC Rotary Peace Center is one of seven Rotary Peace Center Partner Universities worldwide. Fellows selected to study at the Duke-UNC Rotary Peace Center will enroll either at Duke’s Master’s Program in International Development Policy (MIDP), or in UNC master’s programs under various relevant departments and schools (for details see the Academics page).
The joint Duke-UNC Rotary Peace Center takes advantage of the best faculty, courses, resources and technology that each university offers. All of our Fellows have access to these resources on both campuses. Duke University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill are located within 10 miles of one another, and both border the Research Triangle Park, home to internationally renowned research facilities and corporations. The area has been ranked as one of the best places in America for living, working and for education by a number of national publications. Rotary Peace Fellows are leaders promoting national and international cooperation, peace, and the successful resolution of conflict throughout their lives, in their careers, and through service activities.
The Duke-UNC Rotary Peace Center is based in the Office of the Vice Provost for Global Affairs (OVPGA) at UNC Chapel Hill. The OVPGA has primary responsibility for shaping and implementing the University’s global strategy while supporting global activity across campus. Units that report to the Vice Provost for Global Affairs include Global Partnerships, Global Education, Communications, Global Research Institute, International Student and Scholar Services, Development, Duke-UNC Rotary Peace Center and the Unified Business Cluster.
Position Summary
The Program Coordinator oversees the day-to-day functions of the Duke-UNC Rotary Peace Center in all aspects of its work and coordinates programming and support for Fulbright visitors at UNC-Chapel Hill.
The Program Coordinator serves as a main program contact for Rotary Peace Fellows at Duke and UNC-Chapel Hill by working with the Rotary fellows at every stage of their studies (application process, admissions, arrival/orientation, guidance throughout the academic program and follow-up with alumni); planning and executing seminars, annual conference, visits, and other events; promoting the Center by drafting and producing printed and online materials including website, newsletter and social media; handling problems as they arise, by identifying the cause and effectively directing those involved towards a resolution; working with the Managing Director to act as the liaison between Rotary International and the Rotary fellows; handling general email, post, and phone correspondence; and serving as the administrative associate to the Managing Director. The work of the Program Coordinator can often be complex as it includes liaising between UNC, Duke, the Rotary Foundation as well as with local Rotarians and clubs. Three-fourths of the Program Coordinator’s time is dedicated to Duke-UNC Rotary Peace Center responsibilities, reporting to the Center’s Managing Director.
The Program Coordinator also works within the Office of the Vice Provost for Global Affairs (OVPGA) as the primary point-of-contact for inbound Fulbright awardees (students and scholars) at UNC-Chapel Hill. Working closely with the Associate Provost for Global Affairs and in coordination with International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS), the position organizes programming that engages and supports the Fulbright visitor community, increases interaction with other faculty and students at UNC-Chapel Hill, and elevates the profile of the Fulbright program on campus. One-fourth of the Program Coordinator’s time is dedicated to UNC-Chapel Hill’s inbound Fulbright visitors, reporting to the Associate Provost for Global Affairs.
