The Department of Information Systems (IS) is part of The College of Engineering and Information Technology (COEIT) at UMBC. We currently offer a variety of degrees and certificates for undergraduate and graduate students, including B.A. in business technology administration, B.S. in information systems, M.S. in information systems (also online), M.S. in human-centered computing, Ph.D. in information systems, and Ph.D. in human-centered computing. Through these offerings, our students study the design, implementation, and evaluation of information technologies.

Position Overview:

Reporting to the Assistant Director of Marketing, the Program Coordinator leads recruiting and retention efforts for our students, assists associate chair in undergraduate course scheduling, generates adjunct contracts, and coordinates events for the department. The Program Coordinator works with the department program directors, other IS staff, and relevant campus partners to develop and implement a recruiting strategy.

The position proactively seeks out and counsels prospective undergraduate and graduate applicants on the admissions process and opportunities for study at UMBC. Communicating with a diverse population, this process occurs primarily by in-person and/or virtual appointments, recruitment events, phone calls, and email.

Telework:

A hybrid telework schedule may be available.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop outreach strategies that represent the quality and scope of an Information Systems education at UMBC to high schools, college and universities, career centers, prospective students, parents, and the general public

  • Collaborating with department chair, program directors, and university recruitment/admissions staff to develop and execute recruitment plan for each program in the department

  • Plan, implement, coordinate, and speak at recruitment events, both online and in person, that occur on and off campus

  • Plan, implement, and coordinate IS department tours for prospective students

  • Maintain orderly electronic records of participation and points of contact for each outreach event and prospective student

  • Collaborating with the chair and associate chair, to plan and organize undergraduate course scheduling each semester

  • Collaborating with the chair and associate chair, to facilitate adjunct contracts each semester

  • Collaborating with Information Systems staff and faculty, organize events for the department that include our Distinguished Speaker Series, Welcome Week, graduation celebrations, and alumni engagement opportunities

Required Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree, preferably in Communications, Marketing, Business Administration, or related field. Degrees in English or other related program may also be considered.
  • One year experience executing marketing strategies across various channels, including social media, email, and digital advertising or related area. 
  • Excellent verbal communication, especially with high school and community college student populations.
  • Excellent written communication and customer service skills.
  • Strong computer skills with the ability to learn new systems.
  • High level of experience with Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, Slides, etc.).
  • Demonstrated time management skills to meet deadlines and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

  Note:  Requires occasional weekend travel in-state and out-of-state and working evening hours based on admission cycle.  

Preferred Qualifications: 
  • One year experience in undergraduate administration and/or recruitment. Consideration will also be given to public relations, marketing, and/or university administration.
  • A strong understanding of and experience in the higher education market, including recruitment, admissions, and retention
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate the planning and execution of events effectively
  • Ability to engage audiences of varying sizes and backgrounds, and convey information persuasively
