Position Summary Information


Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The University Office for Diversity and Inclusion has primary responsibility for providing University-wide leadership on best practices and strategies to build and sustain an inclusive campus community. UODI promotes the principles of equity and inclusion in recruitment, through diversity education and functions, and development programming. Our office strives to position Carolina to fulfill its mission of educating a diverse student body with the added goal of aspiring to attract and retain faculty and staff reflective of our larger community while maintaining an unwavering commitment to excellence.
Position Summary
This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that may include a partially remote work location, consistent with System Office policy. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station.
Reporting to the Sr. Director/Assistant Director of Student Access, Success and Engagement, the Program Coordinator will serve as an integral member of the University Office for Diversity and Inclusion. The Program Coordinator will manage and provide day-to-day oversight to diversity and multi-cultural programs within the University Office for Diversity and Inclusion. As the Program Coordinator, the incumbent will be responsible for the development, implementation, and growth of new and existing innovative and creative cultural programs aimed at advancing the mission, vision, and initiatives of UODI. Through the cultivation of mutually beneficial partnerships and relationships with internal and external stakeholders, the Program Coordinator will seek creative opportunities to transform the University’s culture across student, faculty, and staff populations with an emphasis on making cultural competency a part of the Carolina experience. To facilitate these programs, the Program Coordinator will be responsible for aiding with conceptualizing, developing, implementing, and executing innovative program strategies and goals, ensuring alignment with those of UODI and the University’s strategic plan.
The Program Coordinator will be charged with conceptualizing, coordinating, and administering events, communications, and new initiatives, continuously evaluating programs and initiatives through the collection of data and analysis of metrics to seek opportunities for enhancements. The Program Coordinator will act as the central point of contact for cultural programming and diversity/inclusion initiatives for UODI and will be responsible for upholding the University’s model and best practices for cultural and diversity/inclusion programs and initiatives. As such, the Program Coordinator will be responsible for leading the day-to-day program operations for the student access, success, and engagement programs. This includes the management of student personnel, policies, and procedures, as well as the management and coordination of UODI events (i.e. MLK Week of Celebration, Project Uplift, Uplift PLUS, BLDG series) throughout the year.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Ability to promote opportunity and equity in higher education as a student advocate. Experience planning, implementing and conducting workshops, webinars, and other events for students and others to promote dialogue and understanding.
Understanding of program development and implementation of curriculum, summer programming and cultural activities/events.
An understanding of student cognitive, social, and emotional development and learning strategies at the post-secondary level.
Strong oral, written, and intercultural communication skills.
Ability to work independently, handle ambiguity, manage multiple projects, schedules and deadlines, as well as possess good interpersonal skills.
Fluency with desktop applications such as the Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with data management systems.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Master’s degree and 2 years of experience related to student programming, engagement, development, and resilience in higher education or non-profit setting.
Relevant experience, cultural competency and knowledge of research, curriculum, programming and success strategies regarding undergraduate and graduate students plus an understanding of related issues, trends, and needs pertaining to college students in general.

Campus Security Authority Responsibilities
This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities.
