Are you passionate about shaping the future of veterinary medicine by recruiting and supporting aspiring leaders in the field? The Professional Program in Veterinary Medicine at South Dakota State University (SDSU) is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Program Coordinator for Veterinary Student Recruiting, Student Services, Advising, Admissions, and General Programmatic Support. This unique position offers an exceptional opportunity to play a pivotal role in nurturing the next generation of veterinarians enrolled in the professional Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) program, offered collaboratively with the University of Minnesota. This position is located in Brookings, South Dakota and is a 12-month, full-time, benefits-eligible position.  
 
The mission of the Professional Program in Veterinary Medicine (PPVM) is to strengthen South Dakota’s rural economy and regional agricultural systems by educating future veterinarians and scientists to serve the region. The program is made possible through a formal cooperative agreement, in which SDSU students admitted into the Professional Program complete the first two years of their veterinary medical education at South Dakota State University and then transfer to the University of Minnesota’s College of Veterinary Medicine (UMN CVM) for the final two years of study.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position provides critical support for the Professional Program in Veterinary Medicine (PPVM) by coordinating with the PPVM Faculty and Staff with admissions, student and resource communication and outreach, purchasing and resource management, some direct student interaction for program admissions, day to day operations, committee support, coordination of activities for practical education with UMN. Coordination and assistance with advising regarding PPVM and Pre-Vet students in terms of admissions and mandatory course requirements.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s degree in a field related to Biology, Animal or Veterinary Science, Communications, Marketing, or Educational Counseling or related field is required by the date of appointment.
  • At least one year of experience in a related field such as Communications, Marketing, or Educational Counseling.
  • Valid driver’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.

 
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master’s degree in Biology, Animal or Veterinary Science, Communications, Marketing, Educational Counseling, or related field. 
  • Experience in student recruitment.
  • Student services experience.
  • Experience with youth programs such as FFA, 4-H and others.

Work Hours
The standard work week is Monday through Friday from 8am to 5pm. This position also involves some evening and weekend work during peak admission and advising periods, and related to travel for professional meetings, trainings, and strategic planning with the University of Minnesota.
