SUMMARY

Based in the Office of Duke Kunshan University (DKU) Programs, the DKU Program Coordinator works as part of a team and in close collaboration with Duke and DKU units to ensure a successful experience for DKU students during their study at Duke, and to support other Duke-DKU programming. Major responsibilities include: coordinating student orientation, activities and events, developing and maintaining student resources, liaising with campus partners, and communication tasks including managing weekly newsletter. The position reports to the Director of DKU Student Engagement.

WORK PERFORMED

Program (60%)

  • Collaborate to design and deliver comprehensive pre-arrival and arrival orientation for DKU students studying at Duke for fall, spring and summer sessions. Facilitate sessions or liaise with campus partners as needed.
  • Work with team to develop engagement calendar for each academic term. Conceptualize and plan events and activities to facilitate student engagement and development, and to enhance the overall student experience at Duke and in Durham.
  • Liaise with Duke units regarding services and policies relevant to the DKU students’ program at Duke. Assist students with relevant inquiries.
  • Collaborate to provide advising and training to Duke-DKU student organization and peer group; provide guidance on student group activities including support during move-in and orientation.
  • Work with team to resolve student issues that may arise.

Communications (20%)

  • Plan, develop and maintain resources to help students acclimate to the Duke and Durham cultural, social and living environment.
  • Manage weekly student newsletter. Plan timeline, maintain distribution list, work with supervisor to develop content.
  • Maintain sections of website, create flyers and announcements.
  • Develop and give presentations virtually or in person.

Program Administration (20%)

  • Coordinate overall execution of events including budgeting, logistics, marketing, and registration.
  • Help maintain ongoing communication with key Duke and DKU units and departments.
  • Work with the Director to develop policies relevant to the DKU student experience at Duke.
  • Build and manage program forms, surveys, and records.  Track student participation and engagement at Duke.
  • Respond to email, phone, and in-person inquiries and requests for information.
  • Perform other administrative duties related to the work of the office.

Desired Skills and Knowledge:

We are seeking a highly organized, flexible and proactive individual able to thrive in a fast-paced environment. Enthusiasm for supporting a diverse student population adjust to college life in the U.S. is required. In addition, candidates should have:

  • Experience working in higher education or similar setting, in particular in student affairs, advising or counseling, international student support, or study abroad administration.
  • Experience implementing programs aimed toward student success and engagement.
  • Experience planning and managing events.
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to maintain confidentiality of student information.
  • Competence managing multiple projects independently with attention to quality and deadlines.
  • Proficiency with technology including Microsoft suite, Mailchimp, Sakai or similar MLS, basic web and design tools, Qualtrics and social media.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a positive, team-oriented attitude.
  • Some weekend and evening work is expected for this position.
  • Proficiency in Chinese language and knowledge of Chinese culture. 
  • Knowledge of academic and student life at Duke.
  • Proven ability to work effectively with diverse populations or in cross-cultural settings.

Minimum Qualifications
Education

Work requires analytical, communications and organizational skills generally acquired through completion of a bachelor's degree program.


Experience

Work requires three years of experience in program administration or involving academic, instructional or counseling activities to acquire skills necessary to plan, coordinate and implement a variety of program activities and events.  OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
