Program Coordinator

The Program Coordinator will be an integral programmatic team member for the State Health and Value Strategies (SHVS) program. This is a grant funded project of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and housed at Princeton University. This high-profile program has been in place for over 8 years, continually growing and expanding. Through the grant, SHVS works in both contracted and cooperative arrangements with a wide range of partner organizations.

 

SHVS assists states in their efforts to transform their healthcare systems to be affordable, equitable, and innovative. By connecting states with experts in the field, SHVS is able to provide timely and meaningful technical assistance to states when they need it the most.

 

The Program Coordinator will support the day-to-day program operations of SHVS. The selected candidate will support the delivery and tracking of technical assistance to states and work with subject matter experts to disseminate technical assistance programming. The Program Coordinator will produce reports for the Foundation and newsletters for state officials and also assist in creating presentations, blog posts, and other analyses.



Project management 

  • Track the provision of technical assistance to states across a variety of modes: through one-on-one consulting, affinity groups, and ad-hoc engagements/conversations.
  • Maintain a database that tracks all SHVS programming through regular data entry.
  • Proofread and edit program presentations (such as webinar slides) and publications (briefs) produced by our program partners.
  • Take notes during calls with program partners and with states receiving technical assistance through our program.
  • Coordinate SHVS program activities related to the regulation of and access to commercial health insurance.

Communications, reporting, and process management 

  • Draft and distribute publicity for SHVS programming (invites for webinars, publication announcements, etc.).
  • Draft bi-weekly updates and monthly narrative reports to the Foundation.
  • Communicate with program officers at RWJF to secure approval of products.
  • Draft weekly newsletter on state health news for state officials.
  • Post web content for www.shvs.org.
  • Curate content for website that aggregates state health policy resources.
  • Support maintenance of the database that houses the program's mailing list.

State and national health policy analysis and research

  • Track current health policy issues and trends (e.g., legislation, regulations, politics, etc.) in states related to health equity, affordability, coverage and consumer engagement.
  • Curate resources for states produced by SHVS and other RWJF grantees.
  • Create and edit Powerpoint presentations and talking points for the program director.
  • Research and write topic briefs, as needed.


Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 3+ years of experience in health care, health policy and/or public policy
  • Demonstrated interest in health care and/or public policy
  • Excellent writing and communication skills and demonstrated ability to conduct independent research
  • Strong organizational skills, including attention to detail in research and product development
  • Previous experience working in health policy or state government setting, ideally at least three or more years of research, advocacy, political or policy development-related, background in health policy or closely related policy field
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint), Zoom, and WebEx or other webinar software and database software

Preferred:

  • Master’s or professional degree in public policy or health policy or related field
  • State experience and/or a strong understanding of state and federal government health program structures
  • Prefer someone with prior work or related experience in state government, whether as an intern or full-time position, three years or more
  • Familiarity with state policy initiatives related to the regulation of and access to commercial health insurance
