FactCheck.org, a project of the Annenberg Public Policy Center of the University of Pennsylvania seeks a Spanish-language Journalist to work on a term-limited, grant-funded project that aims to counter online health and vaccine misinformation that targets Latinx communities.Job Description
FactCheck.org is an influential and nationally-prominent political and public policy website with a wide readership both on the web and in partnership with major news organizations that aims to reduce the level of deception and confusion in U.S. politics by monitoring the factual accuracy of what is said by major U.S. political players. SciCheck, a subproject of FactCheck.org, focuses exclusively on false and misleading scientific claims made by partisans to influence public policy. The Spanish-language Journalist (SLJ) will write articles about topics such as COVID-19, therapeutics available to treat it, and vaccination; will translate pieces on health topics into Spanish; and will work with others to encourage journalistic outlets to carry these pieces.
Qualifications
Successful candidates will:
Have a BA or BS degree (master’s degree or PhD with an academic background in natural science preferred) with 5 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Have professional experience writing for audiences in both English and Spanish (a minimum of 3-5 years preferred).
Be familiar with the online and print US Spanish-language media landscape.
Be fluent in written and spoken Spanish and English.
Have an ability to develop contacts at Spanish-language media outlets and successfully build partnerships with those publications.
Have good social media and communication skills.
Position Length
This posting is for a one-year, term-limited, grant-funded position, with possible continuation dependent on both performance and continued grant funding.
