Job Description

The Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law (ASU Law) seeks a dynamic, self-starter for the position of Program Coordinator, primarily in support of Professor Trevor Reed and ASU’s new Indigenous Innovation initiative. The successful candidate will provide marketing and program development support for the Indigenous Innovation initiative at ASU, and academic support for Professor Reed’s research and teaching. The position coordinates activities and functions to ensure that the goals and objectives specified are accomplished in accordance with established priorities, time limitations, funding limitations or other specifications. This position will report to Professor Reed and will work with other ASU staff and faculty as needs of the University may require.

Salary Range

$48,000 - $52,000 per year; DOE


Essential Duties

The successful candidate will be responsible for and have duties in the following areas:

  • Research and promote, internally and externally, Indigenous innovations happening across ASU’s campuses.
  • Organize, plan, and market monthly Indigenous innovation speaker events and summer writing workshops to ASU faculty, staff, students, and partner organizations.
  • Assist the Program Manager of Indigenous Innovation Programs in planning the biannual Indigenous Innovation conference, including registration, venue, food, hotel and travel arrangements, and reimbursements.
  • Support calendaring and scheduling for Professor Reed, Indigenous Innovation faculty and staff and coordinate with internal and external partners and funders.
  • Monitor program expenditures and budget allocations.
  • Prepare periodic reports, financial statements, and records on program activities, progress, status, or other special reports for management, funders, or outside agencies.
  • Arrange travel reservations, itineraries, and parking for staff, faculty, and guests.
  • Complete travel request, documentation, and reimbursement processes.
  • Serve as a point of contact for students and provide support and oversight for student workers.
  • Prepare and format correspondence, manuscripts, routine letters and memos.
  • Assist with development and maintenance of databases.
  • Answer phone calls and receive mail and respond to routine inquiries.
  • Occasional domestic travel – Phoenix metro area, Washington, DC, Los Angeles – may be required.
  • Stay current on news, current events, and leading figures in fields supporting Indigenous innovation.
  • Maintain contacts with local Indigenous communities and Indigenous-serving organizations.
  • Physical presence at the workplace is an essential function/recruitment of this position, though some work may be performed remotely.
  • Other duties as assigned that support the goals of the Indigenous Innovation initiative, College of Law and ASU. 

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in field appropriate to area of assignment AND two years administrative/coordinator program experience; OR, Six years of progressively responsible administrative/coordinator program experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

  • Experience coordinating office financial matters including processing invoices and maintaining budgetary requirements.
  • Experience in work that requires organization skills and attention to detail.
  • Competency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and internet research. 
  • Evidence of effective communications skills. 

Working Environment

  • Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding, and manipulating a computer mouse. 
  • Required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work.  
  • Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts. 
  • Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions.  
  • Use standard office equipment including, but not limited to: computer workstation/laptop (keyboard, monitor and mouse), printer, fax, calculator, copier, telephone and associated computer/technology.
