The Mellon College of Science (MCS) is home to four departments and many programs and research centers that cross disciplines. We approach scientific problems from fresh angles using creative interdisciplinary approaches while drawing on our departmental strengths in the core sciences. MCS faculty members are nationally and internationally recognized for their research in a variety of fields, including polymer science, cosmology, mathematical finance, and neuroscience.

The MCS Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion is seeking a full-time Program Coordinator who will be responsible for the coordination and management of programs related to the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives of MCS. These programs will include students, faculty, and staff, as well as student’s visiting MCS departments and programs from other institutions. The Program Coordinator will also be responsible for coordination and administrative duties for externally funded projects administered through the office. Current programs under this purview include the Summer Scholars Program (a summer research program for CMU and visiting undergraduate students), the Data Analytics for Science Immersion Experience (a two-week workshop for visiting students), and the ASCEND Mentor Network (a national mentoring network for postdoctoral fellows funded by the NSF).


Your core responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting in the development and management of MCS DEI related program and events.
  • Serve as the primary contact on inquiries related to relevant MCS programs.
  • Monitoring program development, recruitment, enrollment, timelines, and communication.
  • Advising students of the admissions policies and information about relevant MCS programs.
  • Assist in planning programmatic social events, networking, and community building activities.
  • Coordinate and arrange housing, travel, and other logistical arrangements.
  • Compile and prepare periodic reports and surveys.
  • Participate in campus and college committees, community events, meetings, and affiliated activities.
  • Maintaining calendars and scheduling of activities and events for various programs.
  • Disseminating and collecting relevant information within the various programs.
  • Providing general office management.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in STEM, education, psychology, sociology, or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of project-based work experience

  • Work Posture: This position is operating on a hybrid schedule, with an on-campus/in office presence 4 days a week.
  • Travel Requirements: You should be able to travel and be willing to work outside of normal business hours as needed.
