Position Summary


Liberal Studies and Social Science are undergraduate programs that report to the College of Social Sciences & Interdisciplinary Studies. Many Liberal Studies students continue onto a multiple subject pre-credential teaching program, graduate program, or professional schools. Students in the Social Science program have pursued a single-subject teacher credential, graduate program or professional school.
 
The ASC II performs core functions of initiating, assessing, coordinating, leading, implementing, communicating, evaluating, and otherwise providing administrative support to the Liberal Studies and Social Science Programs in the College of Social Sciences and Interdisciplinary Studies. The position supports the programs’ students, coordinates office functions, and assists the Director in liaising with departments across campus whose faculty teach in the Liberal Studies and Social Science curricula. The ASC II develops, implements, and monitors procedures and timelines for the programs with approval from the Program Director. They are responsible for written and verbal communication with new and continuing students, guiding students though university processes; and assisting the Program Director with projects. The person in this position is responsible for developing, maintaining, and analyzing departmental fiscal records, The incumbent exercises strong interpersonal skills that are sensitive, culturally appropriate, inclusive, effective, and, at times, confidential. The ASC II is expected to use general office equipment and a full range of office support technology and systems including word processing and spreadsheet packages, online software platforms to enter data and generate reports, email, and voice mail. In addition to supporting the programs, this position stays updated with operational developments as directed and guided by the SSIS Dean’s Office. This person uses judgement and discretion to independently gather, analyze, interpret, problem-solve, and apply information and data, utilizing detailed knowledge of University, College, and Program policies and procedures.

FLSA: Non-Exempt


CSU Classification Salary Range: $3,440 - $5,639 per month 


Hiring Range: Anticipated hiring range is typically near the minimum of the classification range, although commensurate with candidate's education, experience, skills, and training.

Minimum Qualifications 


Entry to this classification requires a fully functional knowledge of and skill in standard office procedures and practices, as well as an ability to understand and operate in a variety of organizational structures. Additionally, the incumbent is expected to have a thorough knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation and be able to clearly communicate orally and in writing. This position requires knowledge of business math beyond basic arithmetic. The ability to use and quickly learn new office technological systems and software packages are also a prerequisite.
These entry qualifications would normally be obtained through high school, technical, bachelor’s program, or their equivalents combined with several years of related office experience.

Required Qualifications

3. Expertise in using office software packages, technology, and systems
4. Experience setting priorities, meeting deadlines, and evaluating and making recommendations pertaining to operational and procedural matters
5. Ability to work creatively and independently under general direction related to program goals
6. Ability to interpret and apply policies and procedures independently, and use judgement and discretion to act when precedents do not exist.
7. Ability to troubleshoot most office administration issues and respond to all inquiries and requests related to work area.
8. Ability to understand problems from a broader perspective and anticipate the impact of office administration problems and solutions on other areas.
9. Ability to analyze operational and procedural problems and develop, recommend, and evaluate proposed solutions.
10. Ability to perform business math, analyze budgetary data, and make accurate projections requiring inference
11. Ability to effectively write and present reports.
12. Ability to effectively handle highly sensitive interpersonal interactions at all levels.
13. Ability to use negotiation and persuasion skills to achieve results and expedite projects.
14. Ability to provide lead work direction, training, and guidance to student assistants. Assumes accountability for student assistants pertaining to work flow and work completion.
15. Demonstrated ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds

Preferred Qualifications 


16. Experience working in higher education.
17. Proficiency with Common Management System (CMS), Human Resources, CFS Finance, OnBase, AdobeSign, Astra, Data Warehouse (Cognos), Concur, Canvas, Navigate/EAB.
18. Familiar with Sac State personnel procedures for faculty and staff and university
19. Experience with preparation of the course schedule.
20. Experience handling confidential materials.
21. Comprehensive and detailed knowledge of the university infrastructure, policies and procedures.
22. Experience working in an environment which promotes diversity, equity, and inclusion at all levels of the organization.
