Position Summary
The mission of the Institute of Bill of Rights Law (IBRL) is to contribute to the ongoing national dialogue about issues relating to the U.S. Constitution and our Bill of Rights. The program coordinator will serve as the point of contact for the Supreme Court Preview, a nationally-recognized annual conference of federal judges, journalists who cover the Court, members of the Supreme Court bar, and Constitutional Law scholars. In addition to the Preview, the coordinator would support other IBRL programs and events including:
  • Developing the Citizen Lawyers in Action program, including organizing an annual award ceremony and lecture.
  • Supporting the functions of the Institute of Bill of Rights Law Student Division.
  • Assisting the Institute Director in creating and administering new events by corresponding with guest speakers / interacting with law student volunteers.
  • Acting as a liaison for all event participants to manage all travel/transportation, lodging, parking, registration, reimbursements, and Continuing Legal Education (CLE) credit requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Conditions of Employment
  • This position offers a flexible work schedule with some remote work opportunities (not full-time). An occasional evening or weekend may be required. The slowest period is December and January. The busiest period is August through the first weekend in October.

  • This is a non-exempt position, eligible to receive overtime in accordance with the Fair Labor Standards Act. This position may be subject to overtime during high peak times, etc. as directed and approved by the supervisor.

  • All hourly employees are subject to the limitations of the Virginia Manpower Control Program and total hours worked may not exceed, on average, 29 hours per week, over the course of a twelve month period beginning May 1 each year.

Required Qualifications
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Experience in a busy, professional office environment.
  • Demonstrates outstanding organizational, administrative, and customer service skills.
  • Demonstrates strong communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills for developing effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external constituents and VIPs.
  • Basic graphic design experience, using Canva or similar software.
  • Knowledge of basic office technology (phone, copier, fax, scanning, etc.).

Preferred Qualifications
  • Some post high school education such as an associate degree or administrative certifications.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (particularly Excel and Outlook).
  • Basic knowledge of event design and event flow, familiarity with the event planning process, and some experience with planning and coordinating events.
  • Experience with booking travel and lodging.
  • Experience with maintaining a budget.
