Overview
The School of Environmental and Biological Sciences, located on the George H. Cook Campus, is one of the largest schools of Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey. We pursue excellence in research, teaching, and outreach in areas of study that address the biological spectrum from molecules to ecosystems. Our emphasis is on both the fundamental sciences and the social and human dimensions. We offer 21 undergraduate majors, including plant and animal sciences, microbiology, biotechnology, agriculture and food systems, landscape architecture, food and nutritional sciences, ecology and evolution, marine science and oceanography, environmental sciences and meteorology, human ecology, entomology, and environmental economics. 
In addition to instruction in the classroom, field, and laboratory, our students have opportunities for experiential learning on and off campus, including a growing emphasis on international experiences through short- and long-term study abroad. Students also have access to a robust program of applied research and outreach hosted by the New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station laboratories, farms, business incubators, and marine stations throughout the state.  
Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Program Coordinator II the Department of Biochemistry and Microbiology. The Program Coordinator II organizes, administers, and coordinates the Biochemistry Undergraduate program for the Department of Biochemistry and Microbiology (DBM). Reports to the Department Chair and works closely with the Biochemistry Undergraduate Program Director, to independently execute comprehensive, complex, and confidential planning, management, and day-to-day administration of the program, including the undergraduate research and lab instruction programs.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Provides support to the Biochemistry Major/Minor Students, including providing a resource for students to manage the course and curriculum needs, disseminating information to students, and maintaining databases for assessment and student goals. 
  • Supports Undergraduate Biochemistry Program Director, departmental academic and administrative leadership, course coordinators, and instructors. 
  • Provides confidential support, renders basic administrative staff assistance, and performs a variety of specialized technical, advanced, and basic word processing operations for the department faculty and the Biochemistry Undergraduate Program Director. 
  • Carries out routine and semi-routine tasks within work parameters for the unit under general supervision. 
  • Performs professional work that requires knowledge of general program coordination practices and the application and use of concepts, theories, and terminology of the organization. 
  • Maintains a broad understanding of the Biochemistry Undergraduate program.

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelors degree or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience. 
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Demonstrated data entry/word-processing/typing skills, working knowledge of and the ability to use a basic spreadsheet, word-processing, database software, and email, and the ability to use specialized scientific symbol creating word-processing equipment, software, applications, and/or tools.  
Preferred Qualifications
  • An associate’s degree or higher in the sciences and/or experience managing a science curriculum is preferred.  
  • Ability to understand scientific terminology, basic scientific formulas, and scientific writing. 
  •  Good working knowledge of and compliance with operational policies and procedures of Rutgers and familiarity with University departments and their role in the University community is preferred. 
  • Participation in workshops and seminars relating to new or updated University rules, regulations, procedures, and initiatives. 
  • Willingness for continuous development of skills and abilities.
