PURPOSE

  • This position is responsible for the planning, development, and implementation of all aspect of student support and activities for the First Islander Scholars' Academy program. This position is also responsible for the oversight of peer mentors and facilitates the planning and execution of First-Generation Student initiatives across campus.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Program Operations: 50%

Job Duties

  • Plans and implements program events such as conferences, seminars, lectures, meetings, and workshops.
  • Assist in the planning and execution of First Gen Initiatives.
  • Assist in preparation and monitoring of budgets for programs and events.
  • Responds to inquiries regarding program offerings.  
  • Coordinates program communications and marketing.
  • May assists in identifying funding opportunities

Student Management and Recruitment: 25%

Job Duties

  • Develop and implement recruiting strategy.
  • Collaborate with academic support programs to coordinate support and communication amongst programs and students.
  • Supervise program staff.
  • Develop, implement, and facilitate training for staff.

Data Evaluation: 25%

Job Duties

  • Assists in evaluation program services and activity.  
  • Maintains program records and databases.
  • Compiles program statistics.  

WHAT YOU WILL NEED

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Two (2) years’ of related experience
  • Additional education and/or experience may substitute for the minimum requirements
  • Demonstrated ability to advise, counsel, and mentor first generation underrepresented students
  • Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others

WHAT THEY WOULD LIKE TO SEE

  • Master’s degree preferred
  • Three (3) years of related experience, including:
    • One (1) year of previous Event Planning experience
    • One (1) year of management experience
    • One (1) year of supervisor experience of small or large teams
  • Bilingual with the ability to translate higher education materials in English to Spanish and Spanish to English
  • Experience in leading, and presenting orientations in English and Spanish for first generation students and their parents

SALARY: $44,290.08 ANNUAL, APPROXIMATELY
