Summary/Objective

The Program Coordinator will help with the growth and development of the Health Law and Policy Program (HLPP). This will include administrative support of curriculum planning, student outreach and support, alumni outreach and engagement, and events. The Program Coordinator will also assist HLPP faculty and administrators with ongoing health law programming.


Essential Functions
  • Support interested JD and LLM students with course selection, internship and externship placement, and job placement. Conduct outreach to identify additional internship, externship, and career opportunities for law students. Work with the Health Law and Policy Program staff, faculty, and others to support initiatives that introduce students to, and prepare students for, careers in the burgeoning area of health law. Support Health Law and Policy Brief and Health Law and Policy Student Association activities.
  • Assist the faculty and administrators in ensuring effective program operations and compliance with accreditation requirements and support of the Master of Legal Studies program.
  • Manage HLPP webpages, listservs, contact databases, and social media accounts (including LinkedIn and Twitter). Communicate with alumni, students, WCL faculty and staff, and the public via personal contact, social media, regular Program newsletters.
  • Hire and train Dean’s Fellows as needed for academic year and summer.
  • Increase program outreach, through press placements and social media, through targeted outreach health law professors at other law schools, and by strengthening the Program’s connection to its numerous alumni by working closely with WCL departments. 
  • Coordinate planning and provide logistical and administrative support for HLPP events (including symposia, conferences, career panels, annual Health Law & Policy Summer Institute, annual Writing Competition) in coordination with WCL departments. 
  • Schedule and organize meetings and maintain agenda and files. Keep updated records and assist with reports and proposals. Maintain HLPP contacts, appointments, and correspondences. Manage Program budget and reconcile monthly expenses. Manage paperwork and technology needs of the Program in coordination with the Technology and Dean’s Offices. Act as a liaison between the Program and WCL and other AU departments. Coordinate and implement new initiatives as directed. 

  • Work Environment
    • Very little travel, if any, but possibly occasional trips to meet with alumni groups and/or attend conferences.

    Salary Range
    • $55,000-$60,000/year, commensurate with experience.

    Required Education and Experience
    • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • 2-4 years of relevant experience.

    Preferred Education and Experience
    • Juris Doctor.
    • 3-5 years of relevant experience.

    Additional Eligibility Qualifications
    • Substantive understanding of health law issues is a plus. Excellent writing and other communication skills. Budgeting and event-planning experience. Familiarity with social media and other marketing tools. Experience with Microsoft Office and Google Drive.

That means the terms and conditions of your employment are governed by university policy (including the Staff Personnel Policies Manual) and any collective bargaining agreement entered into between American University and SEIU Local 500.
