Program Coordinator, Gender & Sexuality Resource Center

The Program Coordinator of the Gender & Sexuality Resource Center (GSRC), with a focus on management, serves as a resource for all members of the University community on issues of gender and sexuality, and works collaboratively with other GSRC staff to support the mission and function of the Center. The mentorship and program coordinator provides extensive programming, outreach and education on campus, while also providing one-on-one and group support for students.

 

The Program Coordinator takes the lead on programming that center the experiences of LGBTQIA+ and women/fem students and communities; supervises student interns; works with student groups to cosponsor programs; oversees the physical space of the center; schedules and maintains regularly occurring events; conducts outreach to speakers and workshop presenters; works with campus partners to cosponsor events; maintains a calendar of events and scheduling; advertises and promotes events;

 

The largest portion of the job is the responsibility for all aspects of the CGS’s robust and comprehensive programming portfolio, from development through execution. The next significant roles of the job are student intern supervision and management of the physical space of the GSRC. This position will also involve student support, committee work, professional development, and other duties as assigned.

 

 

The GSRC is also hiring for a Program Coordinator (2024-18538) with a focus on mentorship, who will oversee the mentorship programs and affinity groups of the Center.



-One of the largest aspects of this job is working with the other GSRC program coordinator to manage the GSRC's large portfolio of programs from inception through delivery and assessment afterwards. This includes, but is not limited to: taking care of all details for each event (i.e. room reservations, contacting presenters, ordering food, setting up and cleaning up after events, negotiating with vendors/agents regarding contracts and payments, etc.), developing publicity and program materials, evaluation of programs, assist the director and associate director in conducting programmatic need assessments and strategic planning. This includes working collaboratively with GSRC staff to develop the programming for the year, working with colleagues across campus and community partners on joint programmatic initiatives, and physically creating a printed and online calendar each semester. This also includes working with student groups to help sponsor and/or fund their programs. Specific programs that this role will oversee include Pride Fest, Women's History Month, and Pride Month.

 

-The Program Coordinator is the front-line supervisor for the interns, training them on office policies and procedures, building their work schedules and ensuring they have project assignments and are meeting deadlines. The Coordinator will make sure that interns are able to answer phones, advise people about resource, assist those using the library. The coordinator will also work with interns to maintain office social media and to regularly send out newsletters.

 

-The program coordinator, working with the student interns, maintains the GSRC's lounge, conference, kitchen and library spaces. The coordinator is responsible for creating spaces that are welcoming for those who come into the GSRC. This includes making sure the spaces are clean and that resources are up to date.

 

-The program coordinator will be in charge of ordering for the GSRC, including items for programming, and items needed to improve the physical space. This includes keeping track of staff and student needs, keeping the kitchen stocked with snacks for students, and keeping the library up to date by buying new books centering the experiences of LGBTQIA+ and women/fem communities.

 

-Meets with students one-on-one and in groups to offer support (themes include: identity exploration, coming out, transitioning, family, relationships, discrimination, and mental health topics). Refers students to resources across campus as needed. Maintains regular relationships with individual students and student groups to understand campus climate. 

 

-Collaborates with key office partners (i.e., Carl A. Fields Center, SHARE Office, University Health Services [UHS}, Office of Disability Services, Office of the Dean for Undergraduate Students, ODOC, Human Resources {Ally Project}, McGraw Center, etc.) to maintain programmatic and campus relationships; Serves on committees to provide input about the experiences of LGBTQIA+ and women/femme students; Stays up to date on literature, language shifts, and best practices around supporting LGBTQIA+ and women/femme students; Contributes to the overall mission of the Office of Diversity and Inclusion through supporting training and orientation initiatives; and other duties as assigned.



Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Knowledge of sexual orientation and gender identity and issues of concern related to womem/fem and lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, intersex, and asexual identities.
  • Significant knowledge of intersectionality, and the ways that gender and sexual identities are impacted by race, religion, disability, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability and strong interpersonal skills to work in a social justice-oriented office with individuals and groups with a wide array of backgrounds, identities, life experiences and communication styles
  • Skill to pay close attention to detail and prioritize work load with frequent interruptions
  • Ability to juggle many different projects simultaneously, with consistent accuracy, follow-through, and timely completion of projects

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree
  • Educational background in college student personnel, higher education administration, social work, counseling, sexuality and gender studies, or other related fields
  • Professional experience working in social justice education, including experience in the areas of race, ethnicity, nationality, class, disability, religion, sexuality, and gender
  • Experience working with college students in a university setting
  • Experience with creative educational program development, including program planning, implementation, and assessment
