Description of Work Unit
The Office of Student Leadership, Involvement & Community Engagement (SLiCE) is committed to identifying & critically reflecting upon oppressive systems that perpetuate harm in order to construct & foster belonging within purposeful communities. The SLiCE office offers a broad range of programs and services for Colorado State University students, faculty, staff and the community in the areas of leadership development, student involvement, service and volunteer programs, and basic needs programs and services. Through the programs at SLiCE, students find both support and resources to graduate as engaged, active participants and leaders in their local, national and global communities.

The mission of the Lory Student Center (LSC) is to serve as a student-centered organization at the heart of campus, providing programs and services that create an inclusive community andinspire active, engaged learning. As an auxiliary enterprise within the Division of Student Affairs, the LSC is a comprehensive student union recognized nationally as one of the leading university centers. The LSC annual operating budget is approximately $40 million. Nearly 125 full-time career staff and 650 student and hourly staff serve approximately 24,000 people entering the facility on a daily basis and hosts approximately 13,000 annual events and meetings. Areas within the Lory Student Center include the CSU Bookstore; Campus Activities; Lory Dining Services; Marketing (Colab); Operations; Student Leadership, Involvement & Community Engagement (SLiCE); and an extensive array of business and service partners.

The Program Coordinator for Leadership Development will work primarily with the President’s Leadership Program (PLP). The mission of PLP is to develop active, informed civic leaders who practice ethical, inclusive leadership and embody positive humanitarian characteristics, such as optimism, service to others, passion, mindfulness, and fairness. PLP is a 14-credit academic leadership development experience for a select group of 75-125 students. Studying leadership from an interdisciplinary perspective, students apply their learning through participation in service-learning, internship, and artistry projects.
Position Summary
The Program Coordinator for Leadership Development will work primarily with the President’s Leadership Program (PLP). This position is responsible for implementing the recruitment and selection of incoming students into PLP, facilitating co-curricular leadership development to students, planning and assisting in the implementation of local and global service-learning experiences .
The Program Coordinator will also work with the SLiCE Leadership Development team engaging in research and development for leadership education, ensuring that curriculum and facilitation for all of SLiCE’s leadership programs are current and relevant to today’s leadership expectations and needs. The position reports to the SLiCE Assistant Director for Curricular Leadership.
Serving as a role model of professionalism by being organized and able to work well under pressure with multiple and consistently changing deadlines, as well as have excellent communication and administrative skills as the Program Coordinator will work continuously with University leaders in a variety of campus offices including Office of the President, Provost, Vice President for Student Affairs, Events and Constituent Engagement, etc.
The Program Coordinator will have an abiding concern for, and commitment to, serving the diverse needs of the university community, active promotion of an inclusive environment, and supporting the Lory Student Center as the focal point of campus life.
Significant contributions include program and service execution, personnel management, event planning, aligning program/service delivery with intended learning outcomes, facilitation and instruction, and the development of sustainable partnerships internal and external to Colorado State University.
Required Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Demonstrated experience teaching or facilitating leadership classes, workshops, or trainings to undergraduate students in a higher education setting.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity and social justice.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the value of leadership education as holistic student development and the ability to articulate such to a varied public.
Preferred Job Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in Student Affairs in Higher Education, Leadership, or related field

Essential Duties

Duty/Responsibility
Responsible for marketing and recruitment efforts, such as outreach efforts, coordinating the PLP outreach team, and keeping publications updated. Propose necessary budget to supervisor, track expenditures and work closely with SLiCE accounts to ensure payments. This position will coordinate and deliver outreach marketing presentations to student organizations, classes, residence hall floors, etc., to grow knowledge and impact of PLP and other SLiCE programs.
Work directly with CSU Admissions Counselors and area High School Counselors to identify qualified students to apply for program. This includes high-ability students through programs such as Boettcher, Daniels, Puksta, etc.
Lead recruitment process for PLP academic courses and other SLiCE programs. This includes all online nomination and application processes, working in AIRES and RamLink, coordinating phone and in-person interviews, interviewing applicants and selecting participants of both incoming high-school students and current undergraduate students interested in participating in PLP.
Meet with interested students to coach and prepare them for selection process.
Support and participate in recruitment efforts for students into “entry point” leadership experiences within the SLiCE Office.

Explore leadership trends in leadership theory, education, and facilitation. Share findings on an on-going basis with supervisor and instructors.
Collaborate with CSU offices (i.e. International Programs, Campus Activities) and SLICE colleagues to promote PLP student engagement in workshops, presentations, and service opportunities.
Manage service-learning projects and trip logistics affiliated with courses with the potential to be in attendance. Serve as an on-call contact to problem solve situations and determine most appropriate course of action for student participants. Propose necessary budget to supervisor, track expenses, and ensure all payments are made in a timely manner.
Identify University policies and procedures relevant to this position and collaborate with appropriate departments to ensure the safest possible experience for participants.
Serve as a conduit for program expectations for students and instructors.
Be able to serve as a substitute instructor for any course.
Embrace and apply tenets of a team model with professional and student staff to sustain an inclusive work environment that fosters a culture of belonging in support of multiple and intersecting identities.

Manage hiring, training, supervising and evaluating 2-3 undergraduate student staff assistants for program support. Meet weekly with direct reports and create a supportive environment for personal and professional growth. Create schedules, develop projects, determine deadlines, etc.
Provide leadership and oversight of PLP special events such as the Fall Welcome, PLP Scholars, retreats, marketing events, alumni events, and graduation events. Propose necessary budget to supervisor, track expenses, and ensure all payments are made in a timely manner.
Coordinate global leadership experiences for PLP students including participant selection, pre-trip training, collaboration with host institutions/non-profits, focusing on the areas of team-building, risk management and budget. Travel to destination locations may be involved.
Collaborate with Leadership Development Team to deliver exceptional personal and leadership development experiences.
Oversee logistics for participation in Colorado Leadership Alliance – a multi-institutional group that provides collective opportunities for student leaders to learn about and get involved with Colorado social issues.
Assist in coordination of annual alumni events, including by not limited to invitations, catering, room reservations, event activities, agenda, etc.
Contribute to LSC Shape Training & Talent Development program by supporting staff training planning and execution, program attendance, and committee membership to further support the mission and purpose of the SC; support LSC colleagues and actively model a collegial work environment by demonstrating diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Foster collaborative, inclusive partnerships with university offices and departments to provide top quality curricular and co-curricular leadership training, education and community involvement opportunities for students.
