Job Summary


The Program Coordinator for the Shady Rest Institute on Positive Aging provides oversight for Institute programs both on-campus and within the community. This role assists with program development, conducts community education and outreach sessions, manages the Institute website and social media channels, participates on Institute committees, and works with stakeholders. The Program Coordinator oversees program reporting according to requirements including presentations, publications, reports, and other deliverables to sponsors and stakeholders. This position reports to the Executive Director of the Shady Rest Institute on Positive Aging.

Job Description

Typical duties may include but are not limited to:

  • Assists the Executive Director in coordinating and managing the day-to-day program and administrative operations of the Shady Rest Institute on Positive Aging programs.                                                                                 
  • Assists with the design and development of programs to achieve Institute objectives.
  • Develops and maintains professional relationships with key stakeholders, sponsors, and community organizations.
  • Works with faculty, staff, and community agencies to plan collaborative community service projects and to create and execute community education and awareness sessions.
  • Coordinates the development and implementation of virtual training sessions both on- and off-campus.
  • Promotes Institute programs, services, and courses both on-and off-campus. 
  • Coordinates, schedules, and manages the implementation of grant-related programming in the community.
  • Plans and coordinates events, seminars, presentations, and workshops that support Institute strategic goals, including the annual Conference on Aging.
  • Oversees program reporting according to requirements including presentations, publications, reports, and other deliverables to sponsors and stakeholders.
  • Develops and maintains the department’s website and social media channels.
  • Compiles data for the purposes of evaluating program progress to achieve program objectives. Identifies opportunities for improvement that enable the program to achieve its strategic goals. 
  • Participates on Institute committees and represents the Institute in meetings and at events as needed.
  • Remains current on the latest information and developments in the field of aging and gerontology.

Additional Job Description

Required Qualifications:

  • This position requires either eight years of directly full-time experience or, as an alternative, a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization and four years of full-time experience directly related to the job functions.  
  • Professional, full-time experience working in senior services including activities management, dietary services, marketing/sales, community relations, or other related experience.
  • Demonstrated administrative experience supporting work related to aging/gerontology.
  • Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.
  • Experience operating a personal computer and proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint, and Outlook).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution in gerontology or other closely related field.
  • Assisted Living Facility (ALF) CORE Administration Certification.
  • Certified Dementia Practitioner Certification.
  • Proficiency in using social media platforms and website management software.
