The Gender & Work Initiative (GAWI) at Johns Hopkins University Carey Business School invites applications for a Program Coordinator, Casual position. The initiative’s research and programing activities include a variety of projects that require collaboration with partner organizations, academic researchers, and other stakeholders at JHU.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • The Program Coordinator is responsible for providing programmatic, business, and administrative support for Gender & Work Initiative projects.
  • The position will report directly to the Gender & Work Initiative Co-Directors.
  • This position is a casual status role and is not eligible for university benefits.
  • The candidate will be expected to work approximately 10-15 hours per week during the course of a normal business week, with very occasional evening or weekend responsibilities related to planned special events.

Programmatic Activities (35%)

  • Assists the GAWI directors in proposal preparation and the development of program plans.
  • Coordinates regular meetings with principal investigators, postdocs, students, and industry collaborators on GAWI projects.
  • Assists the planning, coordination, and execution of major programmatic reviews and events in support of the initiative and sponsored research projects.

Business & Reporting Activities (30%)

  • Ensures timely responses to regular and ad hoc requests for information from collaborators, University administration, and funding agencies.
  • Collects critical programmatic, workforce development, and collaborative data for all sponsored research projects.
  • Supports editing for annual reports.

Administrative Operations (35%)

  • In coordination with the Co-Directors and JHU communications, develop and manage the Center’s website and social media accounts.
  • Develops content for internal and external communications to promote the accomplishments of GAWI.
  • Implements GAWI initiatives as determined by the Co-Directors.
  • Assists with onsite and virtual events support, including coordinating with facilities and building management, managing logistics and providing travel support. (Onsite event responsibilities will be occasional, approximately 2-4 times per year, and may include related work on evenings or weekends.)
  • Provides general administrative support for GAWI, including submitting and tracking GAWI budgets, financial expenses and vendor management.
  • Triages email inquiries and provides timely responses on behalf of GAWI, consulting with Co-Directors as needed.

  • Strong organizational, administrative, interpersonal, and communication skills are essential.
  • Ability to self-direct and problem solve.
  • Attention to detail, both in communications and tasks/projects.
  • Ability to work independently and manage priorities.
  • Working knowledge of internet/web-based resources.
  • Strong computer skills, email skills, and professional etiquette.
  • Knowledge/proficiency in Windows applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Interest in mastering new software or online university systems.
  • Knowledge/proficiency in working with e-mail software, electronic calendars, and other basic supportive software.
  • Working knowledge of Zoom and Microsoft Teams.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or graduation equivalent.
  • Five years progressively responsible related experience.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
