Position Summary
The program coordinator of the Alberti program is a part-time position that coordinates and oversees the Alberti Program: Architecture for Young People, an outreach program for approximately (60-80) youth ages 8-15 from the St. Louis region. They are responsible for management of the participant and WASHU student teacher experience, including recruitment, supervision, and logistics for courses and camps associated with the Alberti experience, estimated to include a fall-course and a 4-week summer camp.
This weekly hours for this position will vary by semester to match the programming, preparation, and operations of the Alberti program. This position will typically require 12-20 hours during the Fall and Spring Semester. The summer will reflect a higher level of effort while Alberti program is in-session. The candidate must pass a background check to be eligible for this position.


Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Lead Coordinator & Youth Instructor

  • Serves as lead coordinator and organizer for the Alberti Program.
  • Ensures that all elements of the program are delegated and executed on.
  • Serves as the lead decision maker on programmatic decisions with consultation from other Sam Fox School stakeholders.
  • Delegates to student fellows and teaching assistants within the Alberti Program.

Develop Youth Curriculum           

  • Supports the WashU student team in the development of the participant experience, including the creation, documentation, and assessment of youth curriculum for the Alberti program including: projects, lectures, and field trips.
  • Develops and executes youth curriculum and experiences for WashU student teachers and student fellows throughout the Alberti experience.

Youth Participant Experience      

  • Oversees the recruitment of youth participants in keeping with the goals of the program, including developing relationships with St. Louis City & County Principals and Schools.
  • Participates as needed in the communications with parents.
  • Delegates and communicates the operational aspects of the participant experience, coordinating with WashU administrators, staff, and students for management of paperwork, supplies, space usage, and other necessary tasks with part-time staff support role.
  • Participates and informs budget discussions with Director of Architecture and the Sam Fox School Business Office.
  • Leads program sessions and enthusiastically engages with youth participants.

Educational Experience for WashU Students     

  • Recruits student fellows and teachers.
  • Works in coordination with the Office for Socially Engaged Practice and College of Architecture program chairs to set and enforce expectations for student teachers.

Program Evaluation        

  • Works with Office for Socially Engaged Practice to develop, maintain, and track indicators that evaluate the Alberti program’s stated goals and objectives.

Fundraising and External Relationships          

  • Supports, in coordination with the faculty advisor and Office for Socially Engaged Practice, the development of external relationships and program strategy.
  • Maintains community relationships.
  • Supports strategic planning for the Alberti Program.
  • Collaborates with Office of Advancement and Office for Socially Engaged Practice for funding support.
  • Identifies critical local and national relationships.
  • Promotes the program and curriculum within WASHU and supports promotion externally, such as at local events and national conferences.

Perform other duties as assigned.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Master of Architecture.
  • Experience with leading, recruiting, and supervising student-teachers.
  • Knowledgeable in grant-writing.
  • Experience coordinating and managing team efforts.
  • Significant experience working with minors.
  • Knowledgeable of architecture, sustainability, and built environment.
  • Significant experience in working with minors.
  • Experience with supervising graduate students.
  • Knowledge of architecture, sustainability, and built environment.
  • The position is skilled in developing youth-based curriculum.
  • The position would ideally have someone who is skilled in communicating with minors and has excellent verbal skills.
  • The person would be comfortable and skilled with public speaking.
  • They can demonstrate techniques in activities such as drawing, painting, and creating.
  • They can communicate with parents and school administrators on student’s progress.


Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and three years of experience or equivalent education and experience.

Salary Range
$24.24 - $37.58 / Hourly

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
