The Texas Sea Grant College Program is dedicated to the understanding, wise use and stewardship of the state’s coastal and marine resources. It is part of a network of 33 university-based programs in coastal and Great Lakes states that operate as a partnership between the state governments and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) of the U.S. Department of Commerce. Texas Sea Grant is located at Texas A&M University and is part of the College of Geosciences. Texas Sea Grant focuses on three primary, interconnected activities: research, outreach and education. What we want
The ideal candidate for our Program Assistant position is someone who is detailed oriented, possesses great organizational skills and demonstrates excellent communication skills. This employee will be responsible for: managing the publication distribution, including mailing, producing, posting and managing content for the program’s social media accounts that is geared towards engaging Texas Sea Grant’s target audiences as well as curating the website. Other important duties include: photo archiving, updating repeating press releases and flyers, and maintaining the mailing lists and listservs. Our selected candidate will subscribe to and support our commitment to Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accountability (IDEA) as stated above. What you need to know
Please note: This position requires the ability to obtain a valid Texas Class “C” Driver’s License or the ability to obtain one in 30 days.

Required Education:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of training and experience
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Excellent written and oral communications skills
Excellent organizational skills with an attention to detail
Ability to use word processing, spreadsheet and database programs
Knowledge of photo editing software
Ability to learn new online systems quickly
Working knowledge of computer hardware/software configuration and system administration functions for PC-based and Mac platforms
Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others
Required Licenses:
Valid Texas Class “C” Driver’s License or the ability to obtain in 30 days
Other Requirements:
Ability to move moderate weight objects
Preferred Experience:
Two years of experience in programmatic support and communications
Demonstrated social media knowledge of and experience with daily account updating and management
Experience with website management
Responsibilities:
Social Media
Produce, support the production of, post and manage content for Texas Sea Grant social media accounts (including Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube)
Track analytics to gain insight on traffic, demographics, and effectiveness and use this information to positively affect future outcomes
Website
Upload press releases, news items, staff bios, events, home page news, banner announcements, and other information to website
Regularly monitor site for broken links or outdated information
Monitor program account inbox of messages initiated from form on website and respond to publications requests or route as necessary
Publications and Photo Archiving
File physical copies of publications in program office archives and upload digital copies to program website and National Sea Grant Library
Develop and maintain searchable database of images, including scanned slides and digital photographs
Conferences and Events
Serve as primary point of contact for program’s public events including conferences, events and program’s internal events including Advisory Committee meetings, staff retreats, and other meetings
Coordinate program’s communications publications, materials, and displays
Upload communications materials including webinars and PowerPoints to the website and/or social media as needed
Publications Distribution and Warehouse
Take delivery of publications orders at offsite warehouse, maintain inventory of publications stored at warehouse, and pick up publications as needed to fill orders
Respond to requests for publications from the public and staff, prepare for shipping, and send via FedEx other carriers
Keep database of distribution of key publications for reporting purposes
Move boxes and deliveries will require operation of a university or personal motor vehicle
Press Releases and Content Creation
Update annually repeating press releases and create and post flyers with new information or deadlines
Create ad hoc materials (e.g. cards, handouts) and conduct minor design work (e.g. resizing graphics, adding logos or text to images)
Program Mailing Lists
Develop and maintain internal and external mailing lists and manage multiple program listservs
Update and maintain periodical subscriber lists
Perform other duties as assigned
