Job Description:

The Program Assistant coordinates and implements events, including several major annual lectures and ceremonies including promoting via departmental print and electronic communications and social media, and provides administrative support to the University Chaplain and the Office of the Chaplains and Religious Life.  This position is responsible for coordinating the front office and reception; providing logistical support for office programs and initiatives; assisting  Program  Coordinator with Workday transactions, reimbursements and funding for student projects and authorized  Chaplains Discretionary Fund disbursement ; coordinating University support for memorial tree dedications;  weddings and blessing ceremonies in Manning Chapel, memorial services and bereavement support - both regular and occasional.  Managing and restocking of the Bear Market food pantry is also a responsibility of this post and requires occasional collaboration with SAC and student leaders. 

Note: This is a 10-month position assignment.

Job Qualifications 

Education and Experience

  • High School diploma to and 3 to 5 years related experience (preferably in an academic environment).  Some college preferred.

  • Professional and/or other personal experience with spirituality and religious life helpful.

  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills, including warmth and patience in working with community members requiring care and guidance in time of grief

  • Proficient with standard office application software, word processing, financial spreadsheets, calendaring, and basic website updating required

  • Ability to think and act independently, and handle competing priorities, including ability to work effectively with others.

  • Ability to work with a diverse Brown population. 

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends as needed.

  • Demonstrated ability to support a community of diverse perspectives and cultures in an inclusive environment.
