The University of North Georgia is currently accepting applications for a Program Activities Coordinator on the Gainesville campus. The Educational Talent Search (ETS) program identifies and assists individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds who have the potential to succeed in higher education. The program provides academic, career, and financial counseling to its participants and encourages them to graduate from high school and continue on to and complete their postsecondary education. Educational Talent Search also publicizes the availability of financial aid and assists participants with the postsecondary application process.
The Program coordinator is responsible for program selection and planning, implementation of retention services at the school site, staff supervision, coordinating outreach activities to recruit and select new participants, and supporting the academic pursuits of ETS participants. The program coordinator will work in a team environment with the project director and other Pre-College Access Grant Programs personnel.  This position is funded by the U.S. Department of Education; continuation of the position is based on renewal annual funding. Some nights, weekends, and overnight events required.

  • Plans, schedules, and coordinates recruitment, selection, and orientation of program participants and conducts direct outreach activities at target schools, community-based organizations, and/or other appropriate settings.
  • Provides intentional academic interventions at the target school sites to ensure program participants graduate from high school and enroll at a post-secondary institution immediately after graduation. Support services include college and career planning, rigorous course selection, financial literacy and financial aid programs, postsecondary admissions process, 21st century employability skills, standardized test prep., etc.
  • Maintains tracking and reporting systems to monitor program/participant progress/outcomes and develops plans for overcoming academic barriers to promote educational persistence. Provides data and progress/status reporting as necessary for project director and other university personnel. Assists in the creation and maintenance of internal controls to protect student confidentiality and program reporting.
  • Evaluates program activities and makes recommendations for changes and enhancements. Makes recommendations to ensure program evolves as necessary to continue to serve mission.
  • Collaborates with project director in developing and executing the ETS Summer Exploratory component.
  • Produces and distributes program materials. Coordinates marketing and communication activities for program.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of academic advising, standardized testing, college admissions, financial aid processes, etc. 
  • Excellent organizational, communication, writing, and computer skills.
  • Bachelor's degree required. 
  • Minimum of three years of experience working with at-risk/disadvantaged students while increasing persistence, retention and graduation rates, as well as, promoting career exploration and financial education.
  • Degree in counseling, education, psychology, student personnel, public administration, or business preferred. 
  • Master's degree preferred. 
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English).
  • Experience providing academic advising services, 21st Century employability skills, non-cognitive skills, college, career, financial aid, and economic literacy, information to secondary school students (grades 6-12).

Standard Hiring Range: $50,957 - $56,052
