Position Summary/Purpose of Position: | The University of Maryland’s School of Theatre, Dance, and Performance Studies (TDPS) is searching for a dynamic innovator in the exploration of live performance in all its current, emerging, and future forms to be the Maya Brin Professor of New Performance at the rank of Full Professor with tenure. The successful candidate will have the academic record and/or professional experience commensurate with the full professor rank at a flagship institution noted for its commitment to diversity and inclusion, as well as a national/international reputation for working and/or researching in live performance. The appointment begins in August 2024. Salary: Commensurate with education and experience. Duties: To design and teach new courses that contribute to the undergraduate and graduate curriculum in the practice and theory of technology-enhanced performance and immersive experiences, as well as teaching courses that fulfill our current TDPS curriculum. To take a leadership role in our Maya Brin Institute for New Performance (established 2021) by initiating collaborative, interdisciplinary performances and/or research projects:
To maintain a program of creative activity/research appropriate to the Full Professor rank, pursue grant funding for their work and regularly disseminate the results of their investigations in appropriate national/international forums. TPDS faculty are, in addition, required to be actively involved in School governance and the intellectual and artistic life of the School, the College of Arts and Humanities, the University community and their profession. |

Additional Information: | Facilities: The School of Theatre, Dance, and Performance Studies offers BA programs in theatre and in dance, MFA programs in Design and in Dance, and an MA and PhD program in Theatre and Performance Studies. It is home to the externally funded Maya Brin Institute for New Performance and International Program for Creative Collaboration and Research. We are housed in the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center, a complex that also houses the School of Music and the Michelle Smith Performing Arts Library. This 318,000 sq. ft. facility features six performance venues, multiple rehearsal rooms, dance studios, production shops, four World Outreach classrooms, the Applause Café, and the Encore bar. The Maya Brin Institute for New Performance has renovated and significantly upgraded the equipment for four studios, two labs, and three makerspaces. All TDPS performances are assisted by Clarice Smith professional production staff.
