The University of Miami Frost School of Music is seeking applicants for a full time Professor of Practice in Music Engineering Technology beginning in the Fall 2024 semester. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching courses in the Music Engineering program, including studio recording, acoustics, audio post-production, MIDI, with an emphasis on emerging and innovative technologies such as immersive sound, utilizing AI, MIDI 2.0, and software or hardware development. Additionally, the candidate will be responsible for managing the Electronic Instrument studio, which involves teaching individual lessons and directing the Laptop Ensemble. The Electronic Instrument studio is part of the broader umbrella of Contemporary Music at the Frost School of Music. The candidate should be comfortable with modern music controller technologies, immersive or object-based formats, live or recorded sound engineering, music production techniques, and directing live student ensemble performances.

Qualifications:

Terminal degree in Music Engineering Technology or related field.

● Significant experience and expertise in music engineering technology, including teaching experience in a college/university environment.

● Proficiency in live electronic music production and performance in Ableton Live and Max MSP, with controllers such as Ableton Push and/or others.

● Strong knowledge in multiple areas among the following topics: live or recorded sound engineering, acoustics, audio post-production, and MIDI.

Responsibilities:

● Manage and teach individual lessons and oversee ensembles in the Electronic Instrument studio.

● Teach undergraduate courses in music engineering technology, with a focus on studio recording, acoustics, audio post production, MIDI, and other innovative technologies.

● Participate in service activities and academic committees.

● Stay current with developments in music engineering technology, specifically in the areas of immersive sound, artificial intelligence, MIDI 2.0, and audio and music software and hardware.
