Position Summary
The IU Luddy School of Informatics, Computing and Engineering at IU Indianapolis (formerly known as IUPUI) invites applications for a Professor of Practice faculty position in the Health Informatics Program of the Department of BioHealth Informatics (BHI). The appointment will begin August 1, 2024 or when the position is filled on the Indianapolis campus. This is a non-tenure track, 10-month appointment, with the opportunity for annual reappointment and additional summer compensation. The primary duties of a Professor of Practice appointee at IU are teaching and service. Teaching duties include classroom teaching (in-person and online), course and curriculum development, student mentoring and advising. Service includes institutional, professional, and community service promoting innovative research, workforce development, industrial collaborations and sponsorship as aligned to the department’s mission.
Position Summary:
Exceptional candidates in the field of health informatics are being sought to join our fast-growing department. Candidates will be considered from all related areas, including biomedical informatics, clinical informatics, medical informatics and other informatics areas.

About the Department:
The Department of BioHealth Informatics (BHI) is home to a dynamic and interdisciplinary group of 15 faculty members and over 500 students across its Health Informatics, Bioinformatics, Biomedical Informatics (BMI), and Health Information Management (HIM) programs. The Department offers a
B.S. in HIM, a B.S. in BMI, an M.S. in Health Informatics, an M.S. in Bioinformatics, seven Graduate Certificates, a Ph.D. in Informatics – Health and Biomedical Informatics Track, and a Ph.D. in Informatics – Bioinformatics Track.
Faculty in the department conduct groundbreaking, externally funded research in clinical and health informatics, systems interventions, community participatory research, human-computer interaction, usability, mobile technology and bioinformatics. Indiana is home to large healthcare exchanges, including Indiana Health Information Exchange (IHIE) and Michiana Health Info Network [MHIN], as well as multiple healthcare systems within Indiana. BHI enjoys close collaborations with other departments in the school and with the Regenstrief Institute, a pioneering institution in healthcare information technologies.

The Luddy School of Informatics, Computing, and Engineering is the first completely new school in the United States devoted exclusively to Informatics and a range of its subdisciplines. With its formative national role in creating the nation’s largest Informatics Program on the Bloomington and Indianapolis campuses, the school is the broadest and one of the largest information/computing schools in the U.S. In Indianapolis, the school also has strong ties with the health and life sciences in the areas of health data exchange, human-computer interaction, consumer health informatics, and AI applications to health sciences and clinical settings. Basic Qualifications
  • Terminal professional degree in the field or give evidence of equivalent capabilities by virtue of experience. Applicants must have completed their degree by the date of appointment.
  • Be able to teach courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Demonstrated ability of classroom teaching, curriculum development, and creatively adapting and diversifying pedagogy for online or blended learning.
  • Be able to communicate clearly and directly.
