Position Summary:

Summary: The selected applicant will join the faculty who carry a long and proud tradition of highly acclaimed teaching and research in core areas of philosophy. We are seeking candidates with a commitment to excellence in scholarly research, teaching, and professional service. The selected individual will have metaphysics as their area of specialization.

Principal Duties:

Duties: The selected candidate will teach four classes per academic year at the undergraduate and graduate level; advise graduate students; hold office hours; grade exams; conduct scholarly research; perform university and professional service, as appropriate.

Degree and Area of Specialization:

Ph.D. or the equivalent in Philosophy required prior to start of appointment.
AREA OF SPECIALIZATION: Metaphysics

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

Assistant professor candidates must show evidence of outstanding teaching and research potential and must be willing to teach upper and lower-level courses on a regular basis.
Associate and full professor candidates must, in addition to the above, have a distinguished record of philosophical research.

Additional Information:

The Department of Philosophy at the University of Wisconsin-Madison is searching for a philosopher specializing in metaphysics. In addition to metaphysics, an ideal candidate would also be able to teach philosophy of language courses to meet teaching needs.
The department seeks candidates whose approach to teaching, scholarship, and outreach will attract a broad and diverse range of students to the program in philosophy.
